The End of the World is Nigh, We're all Doomed!!!

Earthquakes are endemic in certain parts of the world, including Indonesia, as are volcanoes and tsunamis. Before a few years ago these were considered natural disasters and a part of living in those regions. Now they are global disasters obviously brought on by global warming caused by humans. Unfortunately, global warming or climate change has become a religion.
I can say from firsthand experience, Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in Indonesia are rarely pinned on global warming.

In fact, it's not much of a concern for the people there.

With Global warming, ever more corrupt politicians and so on and so forth is civilisation on the brink of colapse or is it just a passing fad for the human race (being on the edge of colapse that is)?

:wallbash: doomsdayers......most of them have been wrong and will most likely continue to be wrong. By the way, you should know that global warming is little more than a scam right? the real enviromental problems are dumping waste (nuclear, plastic, and much more) into our oceans and disrupting and destroying ecosystems. also cutting down forests and factory emmissions doesnt exactly help the enviroment either. the so called "main cause" of global warming is carbon. little does anyone know that pretty much every life form on earth is carbon based. trees also breath carbon and create oxygen. if there is an event that ends up killing everyone on the planet you can blame it on your fellow humans, and BTW it wont be the end of the world bud. itll be the end of us, the humans.

Flip sake, the world will not end at all. Sure changes will happen but the world will not end.

Changes happen all the time, the world as we know it has already ended! By the time you finished reading my post on this topic, the world will never be the same again!

Tho minor things. Apocolypse mumbo jumbo like religious twaddle and predictions like the "scary" 2012 crap is flipping stupid. I say the real threat is yourself. Not humanity, but yourself. Sure Cliamte change, global warming, corporations cashing in at the expense of the ecosystem are affecting the planet but is its really the end of the World? No. Perhaps a beginning of a better one, as Darwin puts it, Only the strongest can survive. That being the pick of the litter, the better man. Though that can means so many different things...

Hell my opinion that the likeliest thing to cast a global cotastrophy would be The Resource Wars, and they are coming... in one way or another.. once fossel fuels go up in a county's terratory, they will be looking eslewhere to satisfy thier hunger of a nation, even if it is in another country that they do not control. Diplomacy can only work for so long but human nature will kick in. "I want wat you have because Im desperate to survive." is the message I think.

Fallout could become fact instread of Fiction as the game portrays. We as a Planet must tred cautiously in the very uncertain future as we always have. Any small slipups could lead to WW3. If you seen team america and know the "Dicks, pussies and assholes" Philosiphy then you might know what I mean... hehe anyways that what I think....Tho I might be saying complete gibbish.

sheesh people......global warming is a bunch of bullshit really......just another way to make money and an excuse for us to lower our standard of living. and once global warming got exposed as a money scam they switched it to "climate change" :wallbash: The earth has been getting hotter and colder for billions of years. what makes you think its any different now?

Yup I agree. The most logical (tho humans aint exactly logical is they?) explaination to End of World is Sun go boom 5 billion years.... but even that could be a bunch of Hooey.

Well I do believe the sun will go boom and end Earth one day. But I believe I won't live to see that. And neither will all of us nexus members.

Not much use talking about it is it?

Better to just go about our business and make the most out of life, innit?

Those crazy geologists (or whatever the proper term for them is) that do the core samples found that the Earth's climate varies over long time periods... you get hot patches, and cold patches. We are getting one of these cyclic "hot" patches right now. When you get right down to it, there isn't a lot to PROVE that we are making it worse (although we ARE messing the environment up, don't get me wrong). Interesting thing is, the cycle did change for some reason (although that happened about 800,000 years ago, so I don't think it's our fault :P ) - they are longer now (about 100,000 years cycles - which, interestingly, matches the cyclic nature of the Earth's orbital eccentricity around the sun).

Quite frankly, I'm more worried about being run over by an errant boat that has somehow managed to get a few km inland, than of "Global Warming". Life has survived this cycle before, and it will do it again.

CFLs are an improvement in that they do use less energy - but only if they are left on for over about 4 hours, Less than that cuts their life expectancy by about 60% or more.

Not quite... those CFLs have a rated hourage (which is what is flaunted all over the show) but they also have a switching rating - the number of times you can turn 'em on and off. Some of the better ones are rated around 600K switchings. But if you dont run them longer periods of time, it amounts to the same thing (glass half-empty/half-full I guess :P )

And you only need to run them for an hour or so minimum with the average quality one without shortening the life expectancy- they ARE pretty crap. Bring on the bright, AFFORDABLE LED technology indeed. Lower power usage, more enviro-friendly disposal, and longer lasting (150K hours for some around at this point in time).

And apologies if anything seems a little disjointed, it's 1am here >.> I should be snoozing and not ranting about work :P

Well-- there's a simple fact underlying all of this-- simply that all that lives must one day die. That not only applies to individuals but to tribes, civilizations, species and even the planet itself. That is simply a fact, and entirely unavoidable. So the question isn't whether or not our civilization or even our species or even the planet will die-- they absolutely will. The only pertinent question, for the purposes of this thread, is 'when?'

Modern western civilization is fast approaching a breaking point. I wouldn't presume to predict when it will fall, but I would quite comfortably stake everything I own on the prediction that it will, and that it will do so in at most not many more generations. It's simply too foul and too corrupt-- too ignorant and too easily misled-- too bloated at the top and weakened at the bottom. The politicians and powermongers and their patrons and cronies WILL pull it all down around their, and our, ears. The only-- the ONLY-- thing that might head that off is a pandemic or war or other massive loss of life, which will merely bring the collapse about in a different way.

There's simply no other choice. Our civilization was born and it has lived-- it will one day die. That's just the way of the world.

Speaking of "the world" though-- it will survive. This planet is far stronger than we are, and there's really nothing that we can do that would actually destroy it. We might well alter it to the point that it won't support us, but that just means that something else will come to dominate it. It will live on, with or without us. At least until the sun goes nova.....

How are politicians and global warming end the world? I know there is going to be the downfall of human civilization, and I hope I survive to live to bask in the glory of occupying any abandoned building of choice provided that there´s no survivors in it and it is not in a huge mess, then I would just get any pickup truck and go around looting anything to make it into a super fortress, first I would get plasma tv´s HIGH tech computer components, SAI, generators, lots and lots of fuel, (not to mention a whole video game stores loot) and something to eat like heinz baked beans, I would then barricade myself in and plant vegetables in the garden with a construction buldozer to aid me with the digging, then I would get machinery and weapons, I would also get myself a small industrial grade ballmill and a shitload of coal, sulfur and (secret ingredient) as well as primers shotgun shells loaders pellets slugs flechettes and a 3 inch hunting shotgun yeeehaw, not to mention the pipe bombs and kilometers of visco fuse, and I would also plant poppies, morning glories, coca plant, marijuana and mushrooms (amanitas being my favourite, muscimol for life), I could live there until I die from lethal overdose of lusty porn fetish films, drugs, videogames and gunpowder, if possibly I would get myself a 2000 dollar worth real doll and then I need no stressful female company EVER AGAIN!
