Oblivion System requirements

Bethesda has said that they will release the system requirements for oblivion soon.

What do you guys think that you will need to run Oblivion smoothly? It will be really pixelshader heavy but they have said that the game will be much more scaleable than morrowind was. I have just upgraded my PC to be sure  that I can play Oblivion with decent FPS and Image quality. This is what I bought:

AMD Athlon 64 3800+

1024 MB 400Mhz Ram,

Asus A8V Deluxe Motherboard,

Gefroce 6600GT Golden Sample ( from my older PC)

I really hope that this will be enough to play Oblivion.

What do you think?

it is enough,trust me :cool2: ,

All I can say is, avoid Dell at all costs!

A warning received way too late...

Thanks for getting me more nervous about the requirements :P

I'm just thinking, if turning on the shadow options on morrowind makes morrowind like totally.... worst moving you can have... Just the lowest shading on goes still ok, but my mouse reacts a bit late then and usually goes a bit further the direction i moved him than i really moved it... I mean, how am i supposed to play oblivion at an acceptable quality when full quality morrowind gets me stuck?

But where can you find your systems stuff and thingies what you are all talking about on your computer? I'm not sure if mine is ok, so i want to know!

EDIT: Only thing i could find is:

Processor Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.66GHz

Processor Speed 2.59 GHz

Memory (RAM) 512 MB

Which isn't the long list you all threw in your post

I have a Dell that's similar to yours. If you are using Windows XP follow the path:

Start menu/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information

... to get more information on your system.

Many Dells are configured for surfing the internet and running office applications but not for gaming. My Dell came with integrated graphics instead of a separate component video card. I was able to install a video card which made Morrowind run fine.

Look in System Information under Components/Display for information on your video card.

I upgraded to the best video card that would easily fit my Dell (I think). I'm worried that it still won't be good enough to run Oblivion. I'm going to wait until the official announcement of the Oblivion system requirements. If I need to buy a new computer, I'll do it then.

Lots of people like to bash Dell. Maybe it's because they are mass-produced, pre-built, non-custom and hence uncool. If you want your Dell to run games better now, look into upgrading it. If you're most concerned with Oblivion, save your money until we know the true system requirements.

I tend to bash them because I'm wary of the fact they seem to charge large prices for awful computers. Integrated graphics, stuff like that. Can't deny they're a great resource for offices and such though, as you say, they mass produce good enough PCs for surfing/admin type stuff. I don't think of them as "uncool", they just seem like a rip-off compared to custom builts.

The processor might just about be okay. But the RAM needs to be at least 1GB. And you'll want a good graphics card too (GeForce 6 series or better, or one of those Radeon x800xt things should theoretically be enough).

Little confused with the quoting, oh well. My computer is in dutch so i can't really find it. There is desktop accessories and dell accessories but they aren't on the first one, and the second one needs a cd.

1 gb? Uh-oh.

Don't really know anything about upgrading. What/where to buy/download and how to "put it in".

Has always been this way, anything i look forward to seems to fail just before it is there... o_O

Try going to whatever equivilant of "System" is in your Control Panel. If you find it, there should be a button there with something like "Device Manager" under the "Hardware" tab. Click it. Then look for something along the lines of "Display adapters" and expand it, under that should be your graphics card. I don't know if that helps any. :P

It only costs about £30 for one stick of 512MB now. (Not sure how that would translate into Dutch money, so let's just say cheap).

Ebuyer.co.uk has always been good, but I'm not sure if they would ship to you. Dark0ne swears by Dabs, also. Putting RAM in is fairly simple, but it is very important you don't get it against your clothes even slightly as doing so will fry it. I could explain how to do it but it might be a little risky... is there no place you can go where people will do it for you?

Don't buy anything right now. You need to understand more about your system as a first step. Finding the system information or System control panel as Switch suggested isn't too hard.

What is the model number of your Dell? Do you have an invoice or other paperwork from Dell?

Don't give up. Knowing more about your computer is a good thing. You will probably have to choose and buy new computers at intervals throughout your lifetime. Knowledge is power.

The first thing I want to upgrade, once I get Oblivion or the specs, is definitely my graphics card. Mine is a hand me down from my brother who came gome with a wicked grin and a thing as big as a ... well its a Nvidia Geforce 6800, and graciously donated his Geforce fx 5600xt to my cause. Then he made me put it in.

This was a year ago and so far the 5600 has served well, though I have noticed some of the newer games had to be played at lower res and so on.

What I want to now is what is the top end as far as graphics cards goes, as I've been to the sites mentioned and also some others. And all of them claims to be the best, what do you all think works best ? At the moment. And whats still coming?

Well, Radeon and NVidia tend to be the ones to go for. They both have their pros and cons. The NVidia GeForce 7800GTX is the latest from them, a monster of a card with a price to go with it. Radeon have also put up the X1800XL as their latest, from what I can see. Both are going to cost you upwards of £300-400. And you'd need to be sure you had a Power Supply and Motherboard capable of running them as well.

Those two cards have been released within the last 6 months or so... so I don't think there'll be any newer cards coming for a little while.

Got a little more information... I got a RADEON 9500 PRO/ 9700 family

And with one of the devs comments about the 3 year old bit over average computer testing oblivion goes well, gives me hope!
