Danceman
Hiya, folks. Since roughly month ago my Oblivion (even with a clean install, i.e. no mods) and few other games started to randomly reboot my system. I've tried everything I could think of, but to no avail. My specs:Windows Vista Ultimate x32 SP1An ASUS motherboard (no idea which model is that)Intel Core 2 DuoGeForce 8800 GTS 5124 GB RAMCreative Soundblaster Xi-Fi Here's what I tried:*Reinstalling Windows. Two times. No result.*Checking if this is overheating. Nope. Temperature of all the parts is way below critical. I even removed the side panel of my computer case and to cool the room with air conditioning. Still the same reboot.*Virus scan. Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 found nothing.*Turning off autorebooting on system failures. No, sir, no fixing the problem for you.*Updating drivers on everything. Didn't help. Any suggestions? alex2avs
ok ... voltage/amperage ? How's your electric energy line ?Are you using "special" versions of the games ? If not , there might be some incompatibilities between Vista and Oblivion/other games that you're using, i guess.
Danceman
No, those games aren't "special" in any meaning you may imply. My voltage is fine, I guess. Electricity in my home was never a problem. Is there any way to check it?
Pronam
Touching your case when it's on should be fair enough ;D for static problems.Other thing could be a bad power supply. So it is a recent problem? You didn't have it before, or have you made some significant change with something...?
Danceman
Nope, didn't have it before, Oblivion ran perfectly well, then one suddenly it started rebooting. There's nothing major i did, it just, you know, started doing it.
alex2avs
No, those games aren't "special" in any meaning you may imply. Just wanted to be sure ;). Any programs installed recently ? Or right before the problems started ?
Qwaxalot
Random reboots are almost always a hardware problem. Some things to try: Open the case, clean all the fans and heatsinks. Try running the computer with the case open and a fan directed on the case. Reseat all the cards in their slots, including the memory. Two useful utilities are Memtest86: http://www.memtest.org// and PC Wizard: http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php
Hateful_kat
I too would suggest testing your RAM.Get Memtest from the link above and run it for a good few hours.
BossDweebe
Reseating the RAM may also help. It sometimes gets dust on the contacts.I have had this happen with a corrupt graphics driver install as well.
Danceman
I've tried everything you said, but the problem persists. Guess Ill just go and buy new hardware then...
