Kissimurra
Im kinda dissapointed that Bethesda has removed and merged skills in Oblivion. What do you guys think about this? Sure, it might make the game more balanced but I really liked those skills and items items. No more Medium Armor No more Conjuration skill No more Throwing weapons and crossbows No more long/short blades skills (merged) I mean, long and shortblade as the same skill?! Its quite a difference! Look, Its balyn omarel, look how well he spins his little tiny knife! And...Oh he drops the knife and pulls out a huge f**king claymore!
Marxist ßastard
Additionally:Your skill in Enchanting is now a function of your rank in the Mages' GuildMercantile and Speechcraft have been merged into DiplomacyUnarmored has been merged into Hand-to-HandThe Spear skill is now goneAxes are now a sort of Blunt WeaponReally, there's just too great a difference between a weapon designed to dismember and a weapon designed to crush. This is inexcusable. For those who weren't keeping track, Daggerfall had five melee weapons skills. Adding Spear, Morrowind had six. Oblivion will have two. The way this is going, I wouldn't be at all suprised if all weapon skills, the skill governing hand-to-hand combat, and the Destruction skill in magic were to be merged into a single skill called "pointy objects." Lycan
Sey wha!!!!Whay did they remove so many skills.Maybe they addet some new skills and in the end there were so many skills, that they had to delete some of them...About throwing weapons and crossbows:They removed them because the were not that popular, so they decidet to make some super bows, than to make average bows, throwing weapons and crossbows.(I read that)
Marxist ßastard
They did not add any new skills in. They will have precisely three skills per seven attributes. ...And, to dash all hopes:There is no escapeThe developers have confirmed that it will be impossible to add new skills. smuli
I actually mostly like the way they've reorganized the skills... Less armor types is cool because the character can use a bigger portion of the armors in the game, and I thought the middle class was unnecessary anyway. IMO all armors can be much more naturally sorted to light and heavy ones. No more Conjuration skillDon't you think summoning all kind of monsters several times a day felt a bit of a cliche? No more Throwing weapons and crossbowsCrossbows were nice but I didn't really think throwing stars fit the style of Morrowind (I hope they'll get rid of those katanas, too). I mean, long and shortblade as the same skill?! Its quite a difference!Look, Its balyn omarel, look how well he spins his little tiny knife! And...Oh he drops the knife and pulls out a huge f**king claymore! Yep, there's a big difference between using a dagger and a claymore, but just a small one between short sword and one-handed longsword. I think that, as the limit between those blades is so vague, it's good they removed it altogether. The Spear skill is now goneThis makes me a tad concerned though... Does it mean that probably the most used weapon of the Middle Ages isn't going to even be in the game? Not that I had used it anyway but it just should be there :P Anyway, I'm confident in Bethesda making the skills ideally balanced... Let's jusy sit back and watch what what they have to show us as we can't do anything about it anyway :)

Which of those statements will you change once I tell you that Conjuration is staying, fanboy?
Switch
I thought the Blade merging was a little odd. Not very realistic I suppose... but more convenient I guess. :P Like you say the differences between training with an itty bitty dagger and a humungous claymore are somewhat glaring. Are you sure axe is classified as a blunt weapon? I don't recall reading that anywhere. If so that is pretty silly. The fact that spears aren't in doesn't seem very realistic, but I believe their reasoning behind this was because you could, with the new physics, make yourself somewhat invincible by using one. You could keep your enemies at a distance (and presumably interrupt spellcasters) without taking any damage unless they had a spear themselves. The main thing they're concentrating on with this game is balance, and it sounded like spear would own all other weapons outright, and make things a little cheap. Unarmoured a part of Hand to Hand... I suppose they're thinking a bit like martial arts here, it's all one and the same but it isn't exactly very obvious. ^^; Medium Armour not being in is a little sad I guess, but I don't really think it's that big of a deal IMO. It seems as though they have a wider range of heavy/light armours anyway. As for Conjuration being cut out, I'm pretty sure they're keeping it, as MB says. I think it's unfortunate they're sacrificing some realism for combat balance. But in the end there'll be so much more depth elsewhere, are we really going to notice that much? smuli
The question is... Which of those statements will you change once I tell you that Conjuration is staying, fanboy?Ok, I managed to mess it with alteration... Then I don't necessarily think it's a good change, just as I didn't think trashing the spear skill is. Believe or not, it isn't about being a fan, it's about my opinion, shameless sceptic :P

Err, that's the entire point of a spear... it has a reach advantage over other weapons, so if you use it right, you should be able to do that. If that's an unbalancing advantage, than a shield is too. Better take out the block skill, or people will be somewhat invincible. Has it been stated that spears are removed completely? Not just merged with another weapon?
