Does it always involve rape to become pure-blooded vampire?

Was Harkon also raped by MologBal to become a pure-blooded vampire? He says he offered a thousand innocents to Molag Bal, in return for turning his family into pure-blooded vampire. Don't you think it's kind of not fair if only the women get raped to turn into pure-blooded vampire, and the men turn *snap just like that? If not, then there must be some kind of process, not just turn automatically.

I don't think it has to be rape, or sex has to be involved at all (consensual or otherwise).

From the description given, it sounds like the creation of "pure-blooded" vampires is more akin to STD (AIDS, hepatitis, etc) that could spread though body fluid (such as those involved in sex or blood). Or perhaps the blood is the key, and the sex part is just there for the hell of it. IIRC, the first "pure-blooded" vampire was created not because of the sexual act itself but because Molag Bal splattered some of his blood on the victim after the act (whether on purpose or accidental, I can't say).

The way I read it all is it's probably mostly tied to the whim of Molag Bal. I doubt he gives anyone anything for free without some sacrifice..just sacrificing others probably wouldn't be enough. I'm sure the men paid in some way also..it's not a guarantee they were raped but i'm sure something degrading had to happen.

I don't think that anyone was raped to become a vampire, I don't think that Daedric Princes even have genders so rape would be pretty pointless imo

Rape is about power and domination, not sex. Daedra definitely have an interest in both, particularly those like Bal.

Molag Bal "profaned" the body of a Nedic virgin, then shed a drop of his blood on her forehead. He left her to die, and when she arose again at her funeral his blood had transformed her, and she "raped the men [of her tribe] as cruelly as Bal had ravished her". So Lamae Beolfag was raped, no question; but we don't really know for sure that Bal's followers also rape the women they offer to him. Religious ceremonies often take on symbolic elements of actual events, so I would imagine Bal worshipers are little different. All participants probably undergo a symbolic rape of some sort. regardless of gender. I'd bet good money that Bethesda wasn't more clear on it simply because even for an M rated game rape isn't something you go into so recklessly, if at all.
