Most snipers and Archers share one serious mental illness. They are really big cowards.

I take that as an insult. I know you meant it as a joke but I'm really tired of listening to that from my ungrateful squadmates, the damn rookies and my good-for-nothing commander who spends his time in Afghan inside an office while scratching his arse. Just because I'm not right next to regular troopers doesn't mean I'm a coward. I tried to explain them, killing someone in an intense situation when he shoots at you is one thing, you barely see him and even if you do your brain does not suffer a very hard psychological impact since you were defnding yourself.

But being a sniper takes a whole lot of courage, knowledge and willpower. I often got sent behind the line to take someone out. Squeezing the trigger is much harder when a person poses no threat to you and you can see him like he's sitting a few meters in front of you. And then his heart stops because a 12mm round just went through his chest. Trust me, that scars you for life. But that's not the crappy part, the crappy part is when you have to walk for 25 kilometers through an area covered with taliban patrols to get back to safety, during which you get shot 2 times and your spotter, a good friend you knew since you two were playing together as kids, gets torn to shreds by a machinegun right in front of your eyes. Imagine what that must feel like.

And when you come back crushed both phisically and mentally, you get a pat on the back, they patch you up, you get a new spotter and then you get sent right back over the line. Even in these crappy conditions I never failed to do what I was supposed to, I never complained about my assignment being a suicide mission and I always took pride in what I do. And unlike those who judge me, I don't curl up and suck on my thumb when bullets start flying over my head. But no, I'm the coward and they are the brave guys. Stupid useless f***s.

Sorry about the ranting but I needed to vent because I'm really sick of it, my own boys don't respect what I do, not even after I saved their lives a few times. Ungrateful sons of b****es, all of them.

I a glad that you vented. In your venting you have shown me, at least, there is a good man inside you still. Hurt, but still good.
