Hmmm what do you have against blu ray bit streaming ???

strange???

oh and you think thats bad, try looking at some of the creative products, its cheap in comparison, the hdmi out is a big seller.

Let's put it like this:

Vynil records have an audio quality that is equivalent to 56kbps digital and they sound good on an old stereo turntable.

Cassette tapes have an audio quality that is equivalent to 96kbps digital and they sound great on an old stereo system.

Most car CD players today are able to output over 320kbps digital audio and they sound like crap.

Here's the thing, while it's true that higher bit-rate equals higher quality, without good speakers it's all crap, your sound output processing, speaker power and amp are the least important, it's the speaker cases that matter.

I've listened to a very expensive (3700$) 4x200W stereo system with HD audio sound processing and I must say, I'm not impressed, my 40 years old 2x50W stereo sounds better. It's because my speaker cases are hand-made out of 30mm thick oakwood and the speaker cases on that overpriced thing are 10mm thick plates (7mm thick back panel) made out of sawdust.

Only one of my speakers is almost twice the weight of all four on that stereo, it weights 18kg, 36kg both.

If the speaker cases are light (and thin), you lose sound quality through the vibrations of the case, the speaker can produce the quality of 320kbps but the case vibrations kill it. Oakwood provides a good sound insulation (though 30mm is a huge overkill on a 50W speaker) while those thin sawdust plates provide only a bit on a 200W speaker.

You can hear the difference between a 128kbps and 320kbps on low quality speakers but 128 on good speakers will sound far better than 320 on crappy ones.

What can I say, I'm a nut-case that really loves music and has been fiddling with speaker cases and stereo systems for years.

Oh, and you were saying that's cheap? I paid 150$ for my PC and 300$ for my car. So, 170$ for a sound card? No thanks.

There is a big difference from lossy formats then standard vinyl and mp3. its cleaner richer sound. You have to hear it yourself to make that judgement

also whats this vibration you speak of, i have pretty high end speakers, and they are bookshelf speakers to boot. 140 watts a piece a think, the amp alone is around 230watts, my HD Pioneer receiver is around 950 watts.

not to mention in a 7.1 configuration

It also depends on what the source is as well, you could have the most expensive sound system on earth but the source is av, and the quality there for is bottlenecking you're stereo. if you want quality HDMi or Toslink is the way to go. I to have listened to Really high end speakers, i have a pair of Jensen speakers dating back from the 80's, 1000watt a piece. Although they are one of a kind. You Can't beat a 4 1000 watt cabinet speakers now can you, not to mention in a quad configuration

True, but old stereos have a rather high-quality sound processing modules, a 2x25W amp electronics board from a 40 years old stereo is bigger than a PC motherboard and electronic components are larger. Don't kid yourself, size matters when it comes to sound systems. And sex. :P

I've heard new HD audio systems playing lossless and I've heard old ones playing vynils and cassettes, while the source is important, trust me, speakers are far more important (and far more expensive).

The vibration I was talking about happens when you have a lousy case, instead of projecting the sound only forward and through the bass-reflex tube, it projects portion of it onto the case in the form of vibrations. Those vibrations affect the sound by distorting the frequency projected, that's why you can hear those cheap stereos "mumble" instead of playing clear bass. With a heavy, thick wooden case you "suppress" those vibrations and drastically reduce the sound distortions (therefore, increasing the sound quality).

By the way...

You Can't beat a 4 1000 watt cabinet speakers now can you

*ahem*

The central part of my audio system is now a six-channel 4800W (6X800W) amplifier with a 24 band equalizer, FM/AM radio, CD player, cassette player, gramophone and a 1200W subwoofer amp.

You were saying something? :whistling:

Random Thought: Just because you see the same people for several hours in an MMO in a popular leveling area does not mean they are following you and are wanting you to see them.

@Thor I got no idea what happened to your post man but I get what you're saying, more or less.

I've got 4 audio systems, a 2x50W stereo, a 2x40W stereo, a 4x200W stereo and 6x800W + 1200W subwoofer audio system.

The first one's a SABA stereo system (no model designation, must've fell off) with two 3-way 50W speakers of the same brand, custom made speaker cases because the original ones were damaged in a flood.

The second one is a Sansui DA-R500 with Sansui S.U1 2-way speakers, speaker cases replaced with custom made due to cases being cracked.

The third one's a BMB/DAX-1000, 4x200W stereo system with 4 custom made 3-way speakers, 25W Kenwood HF speakers, 75W Kenwood MF speaker and 100W LF speaker, 50mm thick plywood speaker cases.

The last one is a 6-channel DIGI 6550 segmented power amplifier with 6 Behringer B212XL 800W speakers and HD1200/1-JL 1200W subwoofer amp with an XBX1200 dual-sub.
