Crash With No Error Message

alright, my computer has refused to play oblivion for the longest time, always giving me a message when I try to load it up. I don't remember what the exact message was, but it was an error code with a lot of numbers and letters. anyways, suddenly that stopped about two weeks ago, and I've been playing since.

My brother also realized this and decided to download a few mods to improve the experience. unfortunately, he messed up. somehow, whenever we would play our first person camera and the place where we can pick up items off the ground and the like would be about 35 degrees to the left of the way he was facing, and also about three feet away from him. how this happened, we don't know.

neither of us have enough experience with the way oblivion runs to do anything about it, so we completely uninstalled it (deleted the oblivion folder from bethesda softworks, the the oblivion section of my games, then chose to uninstall it.

Then I reinstalled it, loaded up a few of the mods that I'd saved (FCOM and it's components, integration - the stranded light, and the best body mods) and tested it out. normally, when you start up oblivion, your computer takes about 20 seconds to start up, then it shows you the bethesda softworks entrance credits, which you can skip by pressing space. if you choose to skip those entrance credits, and even sometimes when you don't there's a short loading screen while it prepares to send you to the main menu.

my problem is that whenever I got to the loading screen, the game would CTD about 15% of the way loaded. so, now I have reinstalled it (AGAIN) and have no mods loaded onto it at all besides Shivering Isles and the latest patch, and it still crashes. no error message, the game is just there one moment and the next I'm looking at my computer bringing my desktop up to me again.

if it's potentially the problem, I'm a vista user. my computer has to run Oblivion on low graphics to get any kind of framerate out of it, but it otherwise should run fine, as it has in the past.

can anybody tell me what is happening?

If you reinstall, you will need the latest patch, and probably OBSE.

It's a good idea to install them before any mods after a reinstall.

Did that. if you missed it, in the OP I said that All I have now is the shivering Isles and the latest patch (got the shivering isles uploaded first for obvious reasons.) Right now I don't have any other mods

You may want to run the program in Compatibility mode for XP. Also, you may want to see if any settings in your Oblivion.ini are not what they're supposed to be.

How exactly do I find compatibility mode? and the Oblivion.ini is in the documents folder, yes? I'll go check it and compare

I'm Eshen's younger brother.

it looks like the Oblivion.ini was the problem. He copy and pasted it from the oblivion config thing in the oblivion folder, and now it works fine. I tested it out out for him because his alarm told him he had to be somewhere, But i'm sure he'll greatly appreciate it when he gets back, as I do already
