okay - i'm frustrated...

OK OK OK - I know I shouldn't rant, but jeesh, this is a long time coming. I am a PLAYER - not a modder or admin or moderator or anything special, just your everyday average player. I've been to HUNDREDS of MW sites, downloaded HUGE amounts of mods on 56k dial-up (My Morrowind directory is almost 6 gigs of crap) I bought the GOTY edition in 2003, installed it and never looked back. Had to reinstall ONE time because of some stupid mistake I made.

Who has NOT made a face/hair mod???? OK I think I am the only person that plays that has not released a face/hair pack. Can some one get all of them together and sort through them take out the old blocky looking crap that came with the game, release a nice new face pack AND give credit to everyone that conributed to it (I would, but alas I have no time nor skills). BB is the best thing to have happened to MW, and the Beasts versions aren't bad either, BH is great also. But come on, there's hundreds of face packs out there now! Being a 56k user sucks and there is no option for me at this point. No, even if I could pack the great faces and make a mod, I couldn't get it uploaded. And weapons, now that is a great way to get into modding.... create a FF7 version of a sword and post it on a site, good grief, there's millions of those floating around. Robes, texture replacers, classes, races, creatures, vampires! oh my!

I know the modding community isn't to blame but what is up with fileplanet? Why would I pay to download a file? I am already paying for access to the internet, now i gotta pay to download? or wait to download... wtf???? I'm on dial up!!!! Waiting is part of life on dial up, Whatever... - NEXT!

Can't there be a site that hosts your mods for free and screens them? Sorta like rate them? (Gamers Roam was good for that but alas...) I know with MW its really hard because of the number of mods that are out there, but it'd be nice to know if I install a mod whether or not it has changed an area so that I can make sure to load it in proper sequence so that one of my favorite modes doesn't get it's area changed back to default because of it. It's just annoying and frustrating to deal with a game that is so mod-able that it is almost silly. (Yes I have played around with modding tools and fixed up a nice "home" for my characters, but I have used resources that are installed from THOUSANDS of mods installed on my MW directory so no way I could release it as a mod - sorry, mostly because I could not give credit to all who have contributed. But it is a nice house just outside of Balmora) Anyways, I digress, Back to the rant.

Why are all the mods on fileplanet? I do not use fileplanet, I will not pay for a download. :angry2: PERIOD, so why can't the modders upload the files to free servers? :) And I mean all the good mods that CAN NOT be found anywhere else, stuff that no other resource site has at all is located on fileplanets servers - totally unaccessible to people that refuse to pay for downloads.

OK I think I am done ranting for now. Thanks for listening and any comments that you post are appreciated. ;)

All of us need to get things out of our system every once in a while. Then people can come along and tell you how wrong you are! :P

I haven't, and don't plan to.

As for putting them altogether; this is frowned upon in the community. People like to know where there work is for many reasons, but normally so they can upload updates quickly so people aren't left with buggy defaults. This is something that won't be found on any of the major mod providers.

Bandwidth costs money, a lot of money. Do you know how much a good host costs?

All the Morrowind fansites are non-profit. Morrowind Summit is the largest and would have the largest overheads, FilePlanet is definately a good road to take. Let someone else pay for the bandwidth / space requirements and just spend time making the site look good.

If you can't deal with a wait for your mods, well...tough.

Sceening 20 odd mods a day to a respectable level would be a full-time job.

Some modders believe File Planet is the only viable option since it's the only site that will not be going down. TESSource has been providing mods for just as long, however.

As far as I can tell, you're just a lazy bugger :P

I am not sure what you are worried about. Unless it has changed very recently, you can register at fileplanet free. They have a double level download service depending on whether you are a paying subscriber or not but I have never had to wait for a download even as a non-paying subscriber.

I have been a member for a long time and maybe that makes a difference but I haven't heard that part of it has been scrapped.

And I haven't done any modding in MW either, yet.

Yeah, Fileplanet is pretty much free. You have to pay if you want to subscribe to get your own server so you don't have to wait in line, but if you're downloading stuff for morrowind, the servers usually have enough space to allow just about anyone on. I don't think I've EVER had to wait in line to download something for Morrowind. So if you get a personal server for just for Morrowind stuff... you're wasting your money.

OK OK, I was ranting, blowing off some long time pent up steam about the morrowind community or what's left of it.

I'm not here to brag or see who's e-penis is bigger - you do NOT know me nor do I know you, and flaming just shows how immature you really are.

OK, as far as keeping the mods separate so the modders can make updates that's logical and seems appropriate.

OK TESsource maybe hosting files as long as fileplanet, but the site does not have the amount of mods that are hosted there - and don't preach to me about bandwidth. Realworld Sys Admin here, so no blathering on about servers and such, yes I know how much servers and bandwidth cost.

Bah - this isn't worth my time or energy. Thanks for the replies. You can close this thread now. I feel vented.

Three perfectly sensible replies pointing out that your argument is based on a mistake and you accuse US of flaming and immaturity? Go home and have a long relaxing bath, the world will seem a friendlier place!
