Guest
I don’t think Bethesda is dumbing down anything, Todd Howard said himself in that audio interview "There’s no reason for us to do it, because we sold more Xbox games than we did PC games with Morrowind, so clearly the console audience "gets" a more sophisticated role playing game. So if they already buying it, and playing it, as sophisticated as it was, there’s no reason for us to dumb it down. Because that’s what they like." So it’s not getting dumbed down at all. It’s not even a matter of dumbing down; it’s a matter of making easier. You can run across the desert barefoot or you can ride a horse instead, but running barefoot gives you no right to call the guy who took the horse across a wimp for making things "easier" for himself. No matter witch path you take your still going to have to face the same amount of handicaps :angry2: Its just the context you put it in, you cant sleep anywhere you want, you can only use fast travel to go places you've been before, also there the fact that this game is of sans stilt strider, so traveling to an obscure settlement in the middle of nowhere for a quest will require the same amount of foot travel (possibly more) to go where you need to, and since only a few people can run as fast as a stilt strider. It will probably take a longer amount of time to fast travel from town to town, than it would to take a stilt strider. So can you honestly blame Bethesda for adding a compass to this game? It was hard enough to navigate Morrowind, even with the entire nation pre-analyzed by various stilt strider operators.
Gisburne
I'm disappointed that there will be only 5 factions to join in Oblivion, Fighters guild, Thieves guild (Thieving foreign scum gang-Never bothered joining them in Morrowind), Mages guild, Blades and Dark Brotherhood.Looking forward to it but I dont think it will be as good as Morrowind. ??? robidoux
the only thing im worried about is that theyre trying to appeal more to fps fans. ive got a bad, nasty feeling that this will make the game another generic "boom boom crash 'ugh'" game with a significantly weaker storyline than in morrowind. in morrowind the combat lacked in real immersion but its still a hell of a step up from the classic turn-based pokemon style rpg. if oblivion turns out to be one of those games where pretty much everything is trying to kill you for no reason at all (the millions of evil things pouring from a gate reminded me - grimly - of diablo 2) as far as people complaining about little things changed here and there, please stop. i saw the same thing before morrowind came out and after a shot while all i was seeing is "oh this feature is so cool" the games not even released yet and people are complaining. i think oblivions gonna kick ass assuming its still got the feel of an rpg. nathanj
im tired of people whining about what they dont like about oblivion............does anyone even play morrowind anymore without at least 20 or so mods on it...............the game sucks when played by itself.........whatever is missing in oblivion someone will make a plugin for it and as with morrowind some of the plugins are better than what bethesda could have done.............such as companions for example the one bethesda had in tribunal sucked.............i installed partners 2.9 with grumpys script and lords and ladies and they are far superior..........and with the havoc physics system modders will be able to do way more stuff with oblivion...........just look at what modders are doing for half life 2 so what if its missing horses or dual wield ..........wait awhile and someone will make a plugin thats why morrowind is still being played 3 years after its release and has an active community............how many other single player games can make that claim
loveme4whoiam
Team Fortress Classic, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (that's got to be coming up for three years now), and lets not forget the abandonware and MAME communities - I still play Pac-Man and that was invented before I was even born (a long time before... scary) and I still consider it to be one of the classics of addictive gaming. A lot of people have already made the point about mods adding and rectifying the "missing" and "broken" bits of Oblivion (including me), and a lot more eloquently without sounding rantish. I suppose its fair enough since the previous two posts in this thread were also big rants. Welcome to the forums by the way. I hope you enjoy your stay (possibly becoming acquainted with the Enter key while you're here :D).

So are paragraphs. Use them. 2) Yes, mods will be made. The problem is some of these things are impossible to do without access to the source code. Like how dual wielding could never be done in Morrowind, or how you always hold a bow in the wrong hand. Or how Bethesda has stated that adding new skills will be impossible, so not only can we not fix the horrible skill choices, but if we wanted to add new skills/weapons we'd have to do some awkward solution like putting spears under the sword category. 3) Even when things aren't actually impossible, they'll be difficult. Lets say adding new weapon classes can be done. You're looking at a ton of animation work that needs to be done, by people without the nice tools that a major game company has access to. And not only that, but modders who have the talents to do realistic character animation are rare (I consider myself a good 3d artist, but it would take me months of research and practice to add even a single weapon animation). Then add in the other various issues, and you've got something that's a lot harder than it should be.
Mercbird
Spears?? Ooooh ja those long sticks without a blade down the side. No, those would be walkings sticks.I prefer a blade ALL the way down to the hilt on my walking stick. Never seen without one.Suppose it would be a bi*ch for those magical types now they can cast with a blade in their hand, and nothing for the stick to do.Maby they could ride the stick instead of horses heh. >Sorry but every one else seem to be trying they're hand at sarcasm, so I'm in too just like Malchick taught me. Trying that is. Malchick would'nt teach anyone sarcasm.<>I think<
loveme4whoiam
Malchick would'nt teach anyone sarcasm.<>I think< unsure.gif Now that's sarcasm :P how you always hold a bow in the wrong hand. I hold a bow in that hand. Pulling the bowstring with the left hand and the bow in the right is what those who are left-eyed (I'm not making this stuff up) have to do to get a clearer shot on target. There, my educatiional good deed is done for the day. I was wondering about the casting while holding a sword, sort of takes the purity out of magic if any sword-swinger can do it, but meh, if I don't like it I won't use it. People who are screaming about the bad features of Oblivion should pay close attention to that last bit *waits for everyone to point out that some stuff is hardwired... sigh*
Mercbird
I've always found it a pain in the butt that you have to switch between magic using 'R' and weapons using 'F'. I'd zap some monster (of course after jumping up and down on'E' wont work) at a distance and by the time I've 'F'umbled my weapon out the dam thing with teeth legs and an turkey and his mate is chewing up my leg. All because I'm still waving at it. Weapons casting = hurrah old chap, hurrah. Magic is sort of ethereal, or is supposed to be.This is also why I'm my brothers favourite cannon fodder. I panic.
