LordEmm
Hello there. I searched the forums but only came upon the standard fonts questions about the UIs... I use quite a few mods, also from the japanese modders resource, but unfortunately it seems that some texts appear only in gibberish instead of japanese. As i do understand a little bit nihongo, i would like to be able to read whatever is overwritten by some mod (usually by accident i guess, like some door or so on the maps). Is there a way to change the fonts in game and properly display western as well as japanese characters? Also which of the 5 fonts is for what text in game? Many thanks in advance,LordEmm
LordEmm
I can answer my own question about japanese Oblivion. If you have OBSE you can just make a search for "obja_12416.dll". Put it into the Data\OBSE\Plugin folder and it can show japanese as well as english. However the font will be changed a lot. Also it does not work with any UI mods, like Dark UI or Darns, which changes the fonts, because i have no idea how the japanese fonts can be changed, they seem to stay standard no matter what you do to the ini. Any input would be nice, because i can not live without the modified UIs.
malonn
You're going to need to find a japanese version of the fonts used by the UI mods. Good luck with that.
LordEmm
Ha, many thanks for the good wishes, Malonn. Yeah i have been looking all over the japanese mod sites, but they only give specialized versions and i don't want the complete UI in japanese, only a font that can display both. It would be much easier if we could just swap out the fonts that are in Oblivion with any TrueType Font from Windows. It is okay though. Should i need it, i can just use the DLL, see what it is that is being unable to be displayed without the DLL, make my translations and go back to the UI. Easy enough :)
Frodric
I would suggest you contact DarN at the Bethsoft forums or on his website for Darnified UI and ask him. If anyone knows how to set and change fonts in the UI it would likely be him.
LordEmm
Thats a very good idea you know. For some reason i often think of the modders as some wonderful mythical beings way beyond our reach. It never really occured to me to simply send an email or such... Will do :)
ninbei
I guess nobody has figured out how to display Japanese fonts correctly under DarnUI yet huh?
Raestloz
Great bump, man. Really. Did you actually read the whole conversation?
ninbei
Well after a week of prowling Japanese modder's threads I got it figured out. To install Japanese fonts that will work with custom UIs, first google and download this file "TES4JaPatch016_beta3" Unzip everything to Oblivion directory, copy obja_11511.dll and obja_12416.dll to Data/obse/plugins directory. Then run obja_config.exe from Oblivion directory. The config screen will be in Japanese but dont worry, just choose ur UI mod from the top most menu and then click the button to the right, and then click OK. That's it, you're done. Now you should be able to launch Oblivion the usual way and be able to see Japanese characters.
MichikoUnknownFox
The config screen will be in Japanese but dont worry I assumed the only reason anybody would even want to display the Japanese fonts is to be able to read them, so I didn't think that a Japanese config screen would be a problem. o_O
