UN-fogged map?

If this has been requested/done before, then I apologize for posting. I have found mods that do similar, but not quite this...

 

I want the world map uncovered. Not the interior maps, just the exterior maps. I do not want the map markers revealed.

 

You know when you open your map, and look at the one that shows your immediate surroundings...

and any spot you have not yet stood in is clouded over (usually by an off-white fog, black for some)?

That. I want that fog gone. BUT, I still want to have to 'find' places for their map markers to appear.

 

I don't like the game distinguishing for me where I have been and where I haven't. I feel compelled

to clear it all away sometimes (which I have done, twice). I'd like a mod to do it for me from now on.

 

Maybe, like in Never Winter Nights, a book vendor/general merchant of each town can sell an area map?

Once it's in our inventory, let our fog be gone? I'd be ok if a few map-markers were revealed from a map.

Various places make sense appearing on a map for the public: like established inns, towns and landmarks.

I personally would prefer to find these places myself, and just let the map reveal the terrain. I hate the fog.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any mod which might be able to do this since the map data for local maps is built directly from how things are in game. They are essentially built from using a quick render of the area above the player, displaying surface edges as darker lines.

 

For example, one of the test mods I did awhile back was intended to have symbols shown on the local maps above stores. The only way this could have been done is by actually having an object above the shop which looked like like an icon, and was just invisible from beneath. The icon showed on the local map, but nowhere else. It turned out to be impractical for any use since you would have to have traveled close enough to the shop to read the sign before the icon would show on the map, and the icons themselves were not readily distinguishable from the actual geometry.

 

The interesting thing is that the local map data is not treated as a whole, but rather bits and pieces which are updated as you move through an area. For example, if you add some structures to an area you already have a local map for, the local map will not show those new structures until you approach them, and will only update that area near the player.

Console command, I dont think this is what your looking for but i doubt itd reveal map markers, as there is a different command for that

THANKYOU! I will try that. I am trying to make/find a mod that addresses all of my whims, so I don't feel compelled to use the console commands, but the fog irks me so tremendously, that I wouldn't mind using the console to do away with it. Again, thankyou! *scampers off to give it a whirl* ^.^

OK, I tried that. It makes all the fog go PooF... sort of. I have to toggle it everytime I load the game, which doesn't thrill me. So, I thought I'd mention how that solution suited me, in the chance that others feel similarly, and would like a mod to do this. I understand that it may not be possible to make a mod that removes the fog of the outer world without removing the fog of the dungeons, or without revealing the map markers... *sigh* ...but I can keep on wishing.

 

In the meantime, LHammonds recommended I ride a dragon, which is exactly what I am doing. If I ride high enough, the map markers do not reveal themselves. This way I can enjoy the sky-scapes, music, sounds, and scenery without having to fight anything... which is sometimes nice. I have decided that perhaps the reason I was in prison in the first place was for having such a potentially dangerous creature in public, teehee. ^.~

 

I do not mean to seem ungrateful for the previous responses, I truly am. I always appreciate when someone takes time out of their lives to help me out in any way, especially if I only have my thanks to give in return. It's just that the tfow was not what I was looking for or what I hoped it would be. So, if anyone has any idea how to make my suggestion into a mod, I may not be the only one to appreciate it. And if it can't be done, that's fine too, as I expect no one else wants such a mod as much as I do, lol.

I just had a glimpse of several mod threads in this section; if that is the sort of mod suggestion typical of this forum, my mod request seems out of place. Some of the ideas brewing here are fantasmagoric. I look forward to seeing these epic projects come to fruition. Thanks again.

NomDeKeyz, rather than a mod, I think it would be awesome to have a savegame of a character that is at the sewer exit and when they exit (and config their character for the last time) they come into the world with everything explored (such as riding the dragon all over the place).

 

I guess the trick would be to teleport (coc) out of the training dungeon, grab a dragon, ride it all over the kingdom, then coc back into the training dungeon and get the character to the point where they are about to exit the sewer.

 

Not sure if this would work but would be a first I believe. ;-) That would be a savegame worthy of being added to my BETA Testing Character collection. :D

Then it seems I should learn how to teleport/coc; in time I may have that save-game for ya. Thanx again for your ideas.

(due to a neck/shoulder injury, my computer time has been reduced dramatically, so it will be a goodly bit of time indeed >.< )
