theLeeHarvey
I noticed this morning that all the new saves I make, either using the save option from the menu or with console commands, have the same number before the description. Not only that, the number is lower than saves made previously. For an example, when I loaded my game this morning, I loaded up save #202. Then, the save I made after a few minutes of playtime using the standard method through the menu, was labeled #197. At first, when I went to save again, I didn't see the previous save, it had dropped down the list because of it's designation, so I saved my game again using the console command save LeeHarvey. This save got number #198. I started to freak out when I didn't see it in the list at first and checked through the saved games one at a time, looking at the pictures, until I found it and that's when I realized what was happening. I though, that's pretty strange, so I made another save using the menu and checked it. That one was #198 also, but it didn't overwrite the one I made with the console commands. Now I have made several saves, using the menu and the console and all of them are numbered exactly the same. I did get one of the console saves to have #199, but when I made another console save, it overwrote it and was again labeled #198. I have shut my game off and loaded it up from the saves as well as shut my PC down completely and started it up again, and the saves are fine so far as I can tell, they don't seem to be corrupt or anything, neither the normal or the console made saves. I don't use quicksave or autosave, so I don't know how they would be if I tried it with them. My questions are, has anybody else had this happen before? Is it a known bug? Will these saves with duplicate numbers become corrupt over time?
Quetzlsacatanango
If your system clock changes, I know the save will put itself in the list where it falls chronologically.
theLeeHarvey
OK, that does explain the time difference, I did change my clock this morning before playing, but how would that effect the number sequence and the multiple saves numbered #198? Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply.Albeit not having enough data to a concluding answer, things points to messed up ini file. My advice is backing up it and deleting the original (or just move it away) and let the game generate a new one. I haven't fallout 3 installed anymore and don't know the correct line(s) to look after in it, but may be worth a try and find it and correct, if you have too many tweaks you rather don't loosing. The former answer (from the unpronounceable Quetzlsacatanango :) ) is a good start too, since the game uses the play time and the final mess probably is cause of messed ini. PS: thinking further, maybe there is nothing wrong with the ini, yet the saves will be really messed for good because the clock change (backup them and let in the folder only the one you are actually using). This should give you a clean start and your former saves will be yet safe. Indeed it may be good for other reasons too, considering those numbers... theLeeHarvey
Hi Nosisab Thanks for the advice. Again, lol. Just to be clear, we are talking about the .ini file contained in the MyGames/Fallout3 folder right? not the data folder? I haven't tweaked my .ini file at all, other than what ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! does automatically.
theLeeHarvey
Please excuse the double post, I just want to keep you all informed. Removing the .ini file from the my games/fallout3 folder and removing all saves but the most recent one from the my games/fallout3/saves folder was good advice and it worked perfectly. My saves are now being made in the correct numerical order and none of them are duplicating or being corrupted. Thank you Nosisab and Quetzlawhateverthehellyournameis ( ;) ) for the help, I appreciate it very much. LeeHarvey
