I seemed to have deleted my meshes folder in fallout 3 permanently!! That is, I had the folder in the recycle bin and when I was going to restore it, it instead deleted it!!!! Now I cannot play the game without the meshes folder!!!!!!!1 Is there some way to get it back? I have fallout 3 on steam, the only mod i have is personal terminal mod. I was attempting to combine the meshes and textures with some files that were for Tailor Maid Addon. I have the old textures folder inside the data folder but I do not have the meshes!!!

PLeAsE HeLp mE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

Exactly how would one recover backup files for the "Data" folder for Fallout - the vanilla version with no mods??

I have tried using file recovering programs but it just brings up a bunch of junk and I can't find the meshes folder anywhere. In the backup file for Fallout it has files that say "Disk 1", "Disk 2", etc. I cannot find actual replacements for the data folder. I am extremely confused. Please help me I feel like I have wasted 50 dollars on this game. I've only had it for two days. I need to backup the data folder and I'm a noob so i have no idea how one would do this.

Surely the vanilla game doesn't have texture & mesh folders, since the out-of-the-box game gets that info from BSA files.

However if you've ESP or ESM files from mods still in the data folder and they're looking for non-existing meshes/textures at run-time then this would bork the game. You could try disabling these (change the file extensions) or delete them if you're feeling lucky. If the game then runs OK, re-install your mods.

Hmm. I tried the above but it's still not working. I know there's a way to turn normal files into "BSA" files but I'm not sure how to do that. However, I did find the files from the meshes and textures but they won't work since they arent .bsa files. All I need to do is turn them into bsa ones I'm guessing. Would that fix it?

EDIT : I just decided to uninstall and then reinstall the game. I wasn't that far ahead in it anyways. Thanks so much for your help. I'm looking forward to many more posts on this site.

"I just decided to uninstall and then reinstall the game."

Sometimes you just have to cut through the crap and do that. Make sure if you do this in future to clean out the computer's registry (with, for example, ccleaner -- a free program) before re-installing the game, as sometimes data gets left behind after an uninstall which can interfere with the game after re-install ;)
