When you play Fallout do you like to play as a loner, or have companio

Almost all of my play throughs that I have completed of NV have been as a loner. My current playthrough I figured I should give most of the companions a try and I'm feeling a little conflicted. I like having the companions because I'm so used to being a loner in NV that it's nice to change it up, and Cass, Veronica, Arcade, and Raul are all great characters. But there are a few things that really bother me when I have companions. 1) I like playing as a stealth based character, and it gets kind of annoying to do that when you've got people following you. Plus Arcade or Raul will always b&@*$ if you try to sneak with them in your company. 2) The whole story, and all of the dialog is referred to the PC and the PC only, as if no one else in the world notices that your companions exist. For example in the quest "Come Fly With Me" at the end when Jason Bright gives his final speech, I had Veronica in my company and he still said ".... thanks to out two human friends, one new, and the other a long abiding". It may seem like a minor thing, and I understand that it's probably a technical limitation in Fallout New Vegas's engine, but it still kind of bothers me.

From observation it seems a lot of people like having companions, but just out of curiosity, how many of you like being loner Couriers? And while you're at it you can name your favorite companion, vanilla or modded, if you'd like.

Typically in Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Oblivion I always played on my own (unless I was playing a Mage in Skyrim, because destruction magic is so crappy). In Fallout New Vegas I used companions. I usually at least had Ed-E with me just to carry some junk, but usually Cass or Veronica as well. The follower characters are actually really well done in FO:NV and each of them having their own quests and extensive back stories make them much better than any of the other 3 games I mentioned. The followers in Dead Money were really well done as well, even though I hated DM with a passion. One of those reason was because they put those awesome companions in there and you can't use them at all later in the game (and I had to kill one of them.)

I normally go solo, just for the simple fact that, in my experience, it's easier. Easier trying to be stealthy, and it just doesn't feel quite as..clunky, having someone follow you around I suppose. As for my favorite companion? If I had to choose one, I would say Niner.

My favourite companion of all time is Christine, by far - she's one of the very few characters I've ever become legitimately emotionally attached to in a game, and I became very protective of her. My feelings were only further cemented by her audio logs in Old World Blues.

However, since she's not really available as a companion in the main game (mods exist, but they're buggy as hell), I use Willow (who I maintain is the single best-done companion mod out there), usually in conjunction with someone else (currently Delilah).

I prefer to play alone, but if I do take a companion with me it's going to be Arcade because he's a nerdy guy that sticks to himself (like me IRL).

Plus, dat Gannon family armor.

Due to spending 500+ hours in FO3, My first couple of play-throughs (pre-dlc) I was still the "Lone Wanderer" in my head. ED-E had replaced Dog Meat but for the most part I traveled alone.

After that I started playing with companions. Mostly Boone. I would swap out for, lets say, Veronica if I was exploring a vault or other close quarters situations.

Now that I have many mods installed that make the wastes more dangerous and interesting I travel with a "Team" which includes almost all the vanilla companions. Boone, Raul, Arcade, Cass, Veronica, ED-E and Bullets from the Four Legged Friends mod by Brigand231. Using a mod like JIP Companions Command and Control by jazzisparis allows you to command your team like a squad leader, sending your different team members to perform tasks for you. It is a whole different style of gameplay and I love it.
