Unofficial Patch Crash

Hello, I've been modding with Oblivion for a few weeks now, and I've had the unofficial patch installed since I started. However, today, I was in game and accidentally selected the Unofficial Patch item in the inventory/spell list. Now, often when I am running the game, it crashes my computer. It goes to a blue screen with text for a second or two and then restarts my computer. Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Thanks.

A deep blue screen is symptom of driver issue or worse. Follow Dezi's advice and verify if it solves the issue, but try some others demanding applications, to grant you don't have a more grave problem.

A title of curiosity, what is it about an unofficial patch item selected in game in the inventory/spell list?

Any crash that causes a restart is usually due to a power supply problem. Or some other component pulling down the 5 volt supply. If not the power supply, the most likely suspect is the video card.

Many brand name computers such as Dell, Gateway and HP have the cheapest power supply they can get away with installed. if you install a more powerful video card you can easily go beyond the stock power supply's capability.

Can you give us your computer specifications, including the exact video card and power supply make and wattage?

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't think it is a problem with the hardware because it didn't happen until after I ran the patch for the first time, and within a minute of doing so, and every once in a while when running Oblivion after that. My computer is a Vaio, and when I got it, it was a pretty high end model. Is NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 the graphics card, it was listed under display adapters?

If it crashes again, I will uninstall the patch and try it without for a while. Thanks again.

Yes, the Nvidia 7600 is the video card. I just upgraded from a 7600 GTX. It ran Oblivion well on medium settings.

A typical crash does not reset the computer causing it to restart. That is why I suspect a hardware problem. Anything that causes the 5 volts to drop far enough can cause a reset. When my power supply was failing I started getting video anomalies such as clothing items stretching across a room or odd colors on some things. Then it began to restart the computer after running for a while.

Over temperature can also cause reset problems. Check that all fans are working and clean the dust out of the air channels around the fans on the video board.
