Is one of my mods seriously lowering my fps?

I have a Radeon 4890 vapor-x 1gb with 3 gb of ram and a dual core processor.

Yet my fps are usually really low when outdoors (around 20 - 25, sometimes drops to 15), I think one of my mods is causing this.

Cause on my previous pc (nvidia 8800 GTS, 320mb and 2 gig) I had almost the same mods and my fps were the same.

This is my load error.

I am also using qarl's texture pack 3, fast exit, better gras texture without tilting,

Landscape LOD Texture Replacement and almost everything viewable when distant.

Do you guys see anything that might lower my fps that much?

Qarl's texture pack is known to cause a massive FPS hit on lower end systems.

That better grass texture could also be affecting your FPS, I think. You say your FPS drops when outdoors, so try deacticating that one first.

There might be more, not sure...

[EDIT]Also, try lowering the grass view distance, that usually helps a lot.

It cant be qarl's cause like I said: With my previous pc I had about the fps and I was also using qarl's. My video card is brand new (last one was over 2 years old) and in other games my fps is WAY higher.

I am also using streamline btw and that also doesnt help (which makes me thing even more that its a mod). It sometimes puts my grass and tree detail to 0 and still no effect.

Its not the grass texture (just tested it) all it does is remove the "square pattern" in distant grass (so just the hills in the distant).

And its only outside, I am playing lost spires atm and in the big hall you first enter I have around 80 - 100 fps

This is in no way a low end machine :), but you may be using onboard sound card and they are known to cause serious issues in the FPS in Oblivion and Fallout 3, that uses almost the same engine (actually onboard sound is bad news with any game).

Albeit it may 'sound' strange it's a known issue low fps and stuttering being caused by sound, it's because those onboard sound card are dependent on the processor and although it 'per si' should not be a problem, the IRQ is for it actually interrupts the CPU instead the soundcard (that is what happens when using a good discrete one).

To test it change to 0 the values in the two lines in the Oblivion.ini related to sound and music. If the FPS go rocket you'll know the culprit. Sadly I don't know a better solution than giving your machine a good sound card. These lines are found in the " [Audio] " block and looks like these:

bMusicEnabled=1

bSoundEnabled=1

Please ignore this answer if you already uses discrete soundcard.

Anyway it's strongly advised you follow the hints from this tweakguides site mainly the part about enabling the engine to use more than just one core from the CPU.

Remember the old saying: No chain is stronger than it's weaker ring. If you have a bottleneck it will cripple the otherwise better possible system.

I just tried the sound thing: No difference.

After that I unchecked all my mods and tried to run the game as Vanilla as possible =p. Still no change.

I am really starting to believe its Qarl's, lol. But I dont really want to uninstall the entire game and then re-install all my mods. Is their no way to install the vanilla textures to test it?

About the dual core, you mean this? Also tried it and no change

bUseThreadedBlood=1

bUseThreadedMorpher=1

bUseThreadedTempEffects=1

bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1

bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1

bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1

iNumHavokThreads=5

iThreads=9

iOpenMPLevel=10

Yes, those setups, but I don't think it's just texture the issue, your previous card and RAM amount should be enough to keep a steady FPS above 20. But Oblivion is YET a game to be use to benchmark machines... it is demanding, just look at technical sites and you'll see not even high end quad cores and crossfire/SLI setups can keep it under higher resolutions and everything maxed (mainly with high AA and anisotropic filters) so, what you report it's not something so strange and actually is a good pace to play the game.

Probably the points where the FPS drops under 20 are places with high amount of scripted NPCs or involves several creature feet.

I notice you have neither "Operation Optimization" nor "quiet feet" mods, both a must have, even for people with top video cards.

Well I am playing without AA in 1280*1024 and HDR. Normally my machine should be able to run it without a problem.

But hey 25 fps aint that bad, ill just have to learn to live with it and put some sliders down ;)

Oh and I do have operation optimization, it has no esp right?

yes, actually if not that under 20 in the first post I wouldn't even bother to answer :)

try the quiet feet mod, it really helps 'graphics' issues.
