Saving problems

That really stinks. My saves and loads get slower and slower as my characters get more advanced and reach really high levels. I saw someone write something once about savegames becoming unwieldy and unreliable after they reach a certain number of megabytes.

What is the basic status of your computer? Have you run disk cleanup, defrag, and scandisk lately as well as deleting unneeded programs and files from the computer?

80% Full on main hard disk

20% Full on the secondary

Regular defrags/clean ups with CCleaner

I use Kasperky, so zero visures.

Haven't formatted in six years though.

There isn't any tool that resets some of this damn extra data? I'm only level 8 bloody hell!

I have over 2000 saves and the save speed has not degraded much at all. I have about 50 to 70 mods active.

Have you changed anything in the game, or anything on your computer?

What are the size in MB of your saves? It shouldn't happen on a level 8 character.

You may be using a mod that causes save game bloat. For example a mod that has scripts that add NPC's or items using the "placeAtMe" function.

From the CS Wiki:

Your savegame contains info about changes to the gameworld. The more changes that occur, the more info that needs to be saved, thus the bigger your savegame file becomes.

One big culprit is the placeAtMe function. New objects that are created in the world using placeAtMe never disappear. This is particularly a problem with mods that use invisible activators to cast spells at the player or enemies - you end up with lots of invisible activators which are no longer used but persist in the savegame indefinitely.

Items stored in inventories are another common culprit, especially with the negative item count bug mentioned below.

If this is the cause of your problem you can use Wrye Bash to help fix it. Instructions are in the help files.

BTW Turn off Auto save. It's a known cause of corrupting saves. However, this is not the cause of your current problem.

My save is six megs and a half. (the .ess file)

Wyrebash didn't help, It seems to take EVEN longer now!

Could a LOD mod have done this? I recently installed a mod which lets you see Tamriel from one end to another.

And my PC can run it, the game runs smoothly, saving excluded

Have you tried disabling that mod, or is that impossible now? I don't know how the game actually saves, but adding something like a see everything everywhere at all times mod sounds like it could certainly have issues under the hood. I'm just guessing here, but maybe it's doing a sweep over your entire visual space and checking exact NPC, item, corpse locations, NPC animations, and trying to save everything in that instance. Things like the exact status and position of animations/meshes/etc shouldn't otherwise need to be saved if they're miles away because they aren't really moving unless you can see them, but in this case it might be the cause.
