Addition to follower AI for gathering?

I've never messed with the AI in any game I've made mods for because I'd do more harm than good.

 

Anyway,

 

I'm trotting down the road, Lydia clanging along behind me. Suddenly she says, "Hey there's a cave, wonder what's in there?". Another time she pointed out a Dwemer ruin (a fact I already knew).

 

I wonder if this type behavior can be modded such that the follower might notice a mineral vein or a rare ingredient? If so, I wonder what the performance cost would be...

the follower mod, located here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12933/? actually adds commands so you can set followers to collect everything from armour, weapons, ammo, plants, ingredients and more etc. But it does not have the thing you suggested, as in them letting you know something is there, that would include new voice files and scripts etc and so forth. But the mod linked above is great for actual gathering. If you have a party of, say, 8 people, you can give a group command for all of them to harvest plants or collect weapons or armour for a rather epic fight you might have just encountered. Leaving you to either go get a drink or just laugh as your minions follow your every command.
