Creating a Voiceover resource

It looks like people need help finding voice actors. In October (I'm in the middle of nowhere right now) I'm going to create a website so that modders can solicit each other to voice scripts. People who are willing to do some VO for F3 and TES can post themselves. The idea is that f we are getting stuck finding VO actors then we should be doing it for each other. I don't know if it will work, but I'm going to try it.

I'm going to need a sound engineer to help me write an FAQ on how to do good VO with home equipment.

Hey, if someone already did this, someone clue me in.

This sounds like a great thing that you are doing.

If someone has already done this they arent doing it right because a site like this should do everything it can to be well known at the nexus to attract anyone who is willing and able to provide quality material.

I really love adventure mods and hope this idea of yours works out!

Count me in, not as a voice actor, but helping establish a site, community or forum for volunteer/mod voice acting (I'm a pretty good artist & modeler & may be able to help get the site some attention)

I can see a few problem hurdles you(we) may need to overcome.

1st) Getting the attention of most of the gaming/modding community. aside from my knowledge of commercial art & its advertising applications I know very little about Internet advertising, witch forums to post in or how to get the attention AND approval of administrators of sites like the Fallout Nexus so that they make an official endorsement. As of now I am unaware of a Volunteer Voice for Modder Resource. Searching through discussion strings for actors and those who need actors seems right now to be both time consuming & frustrating. Using online search engines brings up an overwhelming number of professional sites & modders need to be linked with a large base of volunteer actors & vise-versa. This is Vital because...

2nd) You need a large base of actors & modders. So that your actors arent overworked & they have a lot more projects to choose from & your modders can find exactly what they are looking for. the diversity in both talent & projects is key. The trick to this diversity is volume because it increases the chance of making available "rare" talent. By "rare" I mean multilingual, "foreign" dialects & accents, unusual/unique voice "types" & of course female actors of any variety...

3rd) Lets face facts, volunteer female voice actors are going to be in short supply & in VERY high demand. This is mainly because it is within the gaming community that the "recruiting" will be done. While the percentage of female gamers/modders is happily on the rise the community is still overwhelmingly male. Additionally the few girl gamers out there who would be interested in doing some voice acting for mods may be reluctant to put themselves forward because of the overwhelming demand, possible objectionable content & (please PM if I'm wrong ladies) fear that their identities will not be adequately safeguarded as to avoid any un-professional behavior or contact. This will ensure that the ladies & other "rare" voice actors will become overwhelmed & quit or become VERY experienced &...

4th) Go Pro, leaving the volunteer database. witch is another reason for having such a large stable of talent. Because you will have a lot of actors (especially the "rare" talents) leaving, for whatever reason. This will further inflate the "average" (no offense guys) to "rare" ratio, keeping the in demand talent over worked & over experienced & increasing the chances that they will remove themselves from circulation.

5th) Finally equipment, a LOT more talent would be available if they had access to the proper equipment & software. Cheap mics/mixers/software simply won't cut it.

My proposed solutions are:

1st) Get the site/project noticed by the right people. Gamers, modders, people with adequate recording equipment & software & recruit as many as possible.

2nd) Take measures to safeguard the identities of all the stables members in order to set at ease any fears of unwanted or inappropriate contact allowing many "rare" talents, who would otherwise be reluctant, to participate.

3rd) Give members (especially the voice talent) control over the filters used to search for them, so they are made aware of only the kinds of projects they WANT to work on. Allow the talent to build up personal databases of their work to be made available to modders who can "fill-in-the-blanks" with the most used or common lines reducing the amount of new lines needed from the actor to the unique ones in the modders script, these will both reduce the chance of talent becoming overworked.

4th) Set up a way for those who don't have adequate recording/mixing equipment to contact those in their area who do.

5th) Finally rather than discourage our talent, modders or engineers from going Pro I suggest we encourage it by partnering with, advertising for & setting up links with professionals who are looking for experienced voice actors, this will bring in talent that would otherwise not come looking for us (non gamers looking to get into voice acting) they will bring us their talent & we can provide them with the experience the professionals are looking for (& maybee convert several of them into gamers along the way hehe)

Sorry this post is so long but I also see the need for a quality, dependable resource of this type. I guess I'm officially proposing that we & anyone else interested in establishing a volunteer voice acting, recording & mixing resource site or community for modders & gamers get the thing done & done well. So we are the site that they come to when they need voice acting or a mod to record for.
