Mookeylama
didn't really even realize this had auto aim til just reading about it. but can't tell if disabling it is a good thing lol. i'm reading that it makes hitting headshots easier but all shots harder...or something. should i disable or leave it? Gishank
There's no auto-aim system in fallout 3, the only thing that can be remotely considered auto-aim in Fallout 3 is the Vault Assisted Targetting System (V.A.T.S) which cannot be disabled, all you need to do is simply not press the key it is binded to. gsmanners
Wow. I'm not sure what game Gishank is playing, but Fallout 3 definitely has auto aim. The upside to the auto aim is that you don't need to worry about your shot going wide as much (unless you have sucky skill or your arm is crippled). The downside to the auto aim is in tight situations, you shoot and the auto aim picks the wrong target and misses completely because you're obviously way off target. Sometimes, the auto aim seems to target dead bodies that happen to be nearby rather than the live body that's currently shotgunning you into oblivion. You know how your cursor turns red when you aim at an enemy within a certain range? That's the auto-aim. Very annoying at times, especially since it seems to always assume you're aiming at an enemy's chest, rather than it's head. Unfortunately, apparently the auto-aim feature is also what makes your guns actually shoot where your crosshair is pointing, rather than where the gun is aiming - which don't always match, and usually end up with you blowing the arm off some guy standing six feet to the left of where you were actually aiming. :wallbash: There's a mod on the Nexus that can turn it right down, nearly as good as having it turned off altogether, but unfortunately FO3MasterUpdate doesn't like it much. :(
Gishank
I've never noticed the effect of auto-aim or my crosshair changing to red. Soo yeaahh, albeit the majority of the time I use V.A.T.S so that could be why I do not noticed it.
Akimb0
Yes there is auto-aim. No don't disable it. ( Apparently it can never be permanantly/completely disabled anyway. ) Download one of the mods which tweaks it to have a less drastic effect. ( I suggest using the fix found here ) It will still kick in somewhat and aiming with sniper scopes requires a little getting used to, e.g. sometimes at range you have to aim above or below their head ( depending on range ) for it to hit. However it's still much better than no change at all.
csb
I use an auto-aim disabler, as well as one that disables VATS. It makes the game a lot harder, that's for sure! But I'm a sucker for immersion/realism mods (check out Arwen's). It's best to experiment and find what works for your playing style, though. After all, most mods are easily uninstalled if you find they don't suit the way you play.
warren2500
I would disable auto aim. It makes the game a lot more interesting and you won't need help.
