Justthefacts
I am just not a fan of the Cell Shading Comic Book look. The concept of the game is great but why did they have to ruin it by making it look like a cartoon?3 million plus weapons types is just overkill IMO. I may rent it just to give it a try but i just don't see myself buying it. It will probably sell millions of units and be the New Bestest Greatest game of ALL TIME to those who like it. But that's just how i see it.
Skree000
watched guys at work play it at work... one dude is really high level, but im watching them play it, coop... versus.. etc... it all looks very boring.. cliche... unoriginal...Cell shading is a cop-out imho, the ultimate low budget alternative lol. Lets make a shader function to alleviate the need for high res photorealistic textures! ;) Ill take a fresnel function on a highres texture over a cell shading outline anyday. Each location seems to be a variation of a Canyon-like labyrinth or a Vault-tec bunker, or both. =/Guess i never really saw any commercials, ads or hype so im just kinda mehhhh about it. Plus doesnt help their case when half of the guys at work who played it when it came out stopped playing it same week lol. I think its just 2 guys who play it now, and one guy its his job to play games for competitor analysis lol
JimboUK
I played it for about five hours and was bored to tears with it, I really dislike cel shading which didn't help. I don't know if things improve further in but I couldn't be bothered to find out.
evilneko
I was underwhelmed by Borderlands. It's not the cell-shading that bothers me, I'm fine with that, and it seems to fit the game's whimsical nature anyway. I just prefer Fallout 3 over it. I was talking about it on IRC with a few people yesterday, and one of them compared it to Bioshock in the desert. I suppose that's a fair comparison. I've never played Bioshock, but I played System Shock 2 and Bioshock just sounds like a dumbed-down version of System Shock. I can definitely see the similarities there. The vehicle control could be better, too. Or maybe I'm just too used to being able to drive and aim in different directions like I can in Saints Row 2, which uses the mouse to aim and WASD to control the car, with spacebar for handbrake. ;)

XanAlderon
I was going to get it, but I have been slightly swayed by those scathing reviews.
evilneko
To be fair I wouldn't say Borderlands is bad, but to borrow from Yahtzee's review of Smash Bros Brawl, I give it a resounding EHHHH. I will say it's definitely a lot heavier on action than say, Fallout 3. I just enjoy Fallout 3 more. My friend on the other hand liked Borderlands a lot more and dragged me through the main quest line in coop mode. And then I went back to Fallout 3. Speaking of which, I should update the pyro-loli's diary...
