Themisive
This has happened three times on me tonight, in the space of 1 hour! I did mention this once before as the crashing was becoming a pain in the neck, and I ended up with this add-on "Clean_Quit_Alternative-21416.zip". Unfortunately, the game crashes regularly regardless of the fact it is on the system, so much so that I have tended to become paranoid in saving the game! Does anyone have any ideas on how I can at least prevent a CTD. As you know, this gives no warning and thus no time to save your game, ant least a normal game close does give you chance to save before quitting the game! I have been noticing the same type of problem with the CS, is it possible they are related? As I am in the process of writing a large mod (I do mean large), there is no way I am going to remove the modder's resources from my machine as yet. If someone has ha suggestion on how I can beat this problem - bug - whatever, I would be happy to hear from them.
David Brasher
Oblivion and the CS both like to glitch and crash. It is always good to save often. The more active mods you have, the more often Oblivion will have the chance to crash. It can crash even without mods, but there are some mods which cause crashes 100% of the time. Most mods cause crashes somewhere between 0% and 100% of the time. If each of your mods caused crashes 2% of the time, and you had 50 mods, your game would pretty much be ruined. It would crash, on the average, 100% of the time. I suggest that you start removing mods systematically and in stages until the crashing gets back down to the ordinary baseline level. Some people would advise really careful planning of your load order. That will only get you so far. If, after consulting the experts and devising the perfect load order, you still had a bad mod, or a bad mod combination, you would still be getting an unacceptable level of CTDs. One option might be to remove most of your mods, but save them, and only activate specific mods when you have a character playing them. As far as modder's resources, they don't matter. You could have 500 of them on your machine. As long as none of them are active in your game, none of them can cause crashes. (Unless your computer is out of memory.) The CS is independent of Oblivion as far as crashing goes. The CS just crashes whenever it feels like it. You can't really change how often the CS crashes, unless you buy a more powerful computer (good) or use Vista (very very very bad.) I wish I had some more effective advice to give.
