bben46
I don't know if this will help or not in your case, but here is my crash article. Crashes are a part of the Oblivion experience. It's the game's way of telling you that you need to take a break. :whistling: There will always be some crashes, all we can do is minimize them. Save often, it will keep the frustration level down. :wallbash: Anything running in the background can cause a crash. Especially a program that likes to call home, such as an antivirus program that updates without warning, or an instant messaging program trying to connect. Start by disabling everything that accesses the internet when you play. that includes the Vonage, Skype, IM, xfire and anything that calls in or out. You might even disable internet access altogether. Many programs use an auto update feature - such as HP printers (how often does your printer driver need updating?)MS auto update can cause crashes. Some of these will even try to connect when the internet is disabled, and keep trying every ten minutes or so. If you can, disable the autoupdate function, at least while playing. :( Then look for programs that run in the background, they are stealing time from the game and if they don't give control back quick enough - crash. MS indexing service, antivirus progs that scan everything in the background, Auto defrag programs, Scheduling programs all steal cycles from the game. Any of these can cause crashes. >:( After you have cut down the crashes caused by external stuff, start looking at your mods. Some mods just don't play well with others. And for some the load order is very important. BOSS works for most load order problems, but it can't set them all. There are over 15,000 mods on Tesnexus alone. Another often overlooked source of crashes is removing a mod. If you remove a mod that affects game play, it can cause a crash when something from the missing mod is referenced in game. The most common is the unable to enter Bruma crash. This is caused when you complete a part of the main quest with one character, make a new character, load an old save and try to enter Bruma with the new character. There is something (spoiler) in Bruma that references your old character - which is no longer in the game. Then there are the Nvidia black screen crashes. A quick way around them is to disable both AA and HDR in your video settings. Then after you are passed the point where the black screen occurs, re-enable whichever you use. There are many posts telling what has worked for some, and not worked for others, along with several mods that help. Try this, Windom Earle_s Oblivion Crash Prevention System  http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282 It completely eliminated my crash on exit as well as some others (but not all) Note, it is not a mod and doesn't install like a mod, so be sure to read the instructions. New info. A lot of unused .exe files left in the /data folder can cause problems. It seems that Oblivion likes to look through all of the unused files and even the extra folders in the /oblivion folder. new recommendation, make a new folder - OUTSIDE of /oblivion to keep this unused stuff. such as Bethesda/Oblivion_Mods. Note that Later versions of Wrye bash already do this with the ghosting feature. If you have a folder for unused mods in your /Oblivion folder, move it into the new/Oblivion_Mods folder. Essentially, clean up your Oblivio/data folder and move everything not needed in /Oblivion and /Data to a new folder outside of /Oblivion. If you are keeping your original or copies of zipped downloads inside of the /Oblivion folder, move them out too. Also, if you can, empty the windows prefetch folder it may be keeping info on older now unused mods, and Oblivion will look for them if it sees that they are supposed to be there. You probably won't be able to get rid of all of them, but you can minimize them.
Chishiokage
lol, yes i've read your article before. trust me, if this were any normal crash it would be no big deal. been part of the oblivion community since it's release, and the modding community since long before (founding member of KPKREW and at one point a mod for heat.net) but this is unlike anything i've ever seen when it comes to oblivion this is a gameclock-based crash. it happens on certain days, at certain times. and the only way to make it through it, is to go to jail and serve my sentence over the time and day that it happens. normally i wouldn't care, but this is a rpg, so going to jail constantly kind of plays against my character's personality. but yeah, if anyone has any experience in dealing with a similar crash, please let me know, i've checked all my mods, and tried multiple profiles, new and old. all of my game files from before still work fine, but with my currnt one, and every character made after it, the problem occurs. so i would guess it has something to do with a quest or character action that is performed at a certain time of day on certain days that crashes the game. idk, let me know if you guys have anything on this. Chishiokage
okay, found out that it is weekly. the game crashes every turdas between 4pm and 5pm. I cannot wait, sleep, or fast travel through it, the only way to avoid the crash is to go to jail. i'm not going to write out the name of every mod i have because it would take way too long. so i will just copy my esps and if anyone needs me to clarify the full name of a mod i can do that, most of these are recognizable by their esps to the average mod player anyway. i have the latest patch, the unofficial patch, and the latest version of obseesm/esp list (in order) Oblivion.esmCyrodiilUpgradeResourcePack.esmToaster Says Share v3.esmDLCHorseArmor.espfwDropGold.espReznod_Mannequin.espSeveriansKatanas1_2.espDLCOrrery.espza_bankmod.espUpdate My Statue.espShinobiSet_NoEnchant.espDLCThievesDen.espsamurai.espDLCVileLair.espDLCMehrunesRazor.espAdventures Gear.espDLCSpellTomes.espAMajor7 Imperial Furniture.espGoldCoinBagger.espKnights.espACCCGR SI.espBag Of Holding.espLost Paladins of the Divines.espSnow Dragon Temple v1.0.espDLCShiveringIsles.esp2680twohand.espMoveQuestItems - OBSE.espASimpleHomev1.2.espMasks Revised.espRise Of A Samurai.espAkatosh Mount By Saiden Storm.espTOTF.espBlackDragonNinjato.espGlenvarCastle.espICEXPANDWaterfront.esp1AzuSeraphimSet.espNecromancer Shop.espextravagant masks.esp1AlexScorpionSneakingSuit.espIvellon.espLNPreciousIngotPack.espThe Lost Spires.espTheElderCouncil_TempleOfTheOne.espAncientTowers.espAlternative Start by Robert Evrae.espclone.espNewbsArmoredRobes.espLetThePeopleDrink.espBoots Of The Jumper.esp_Abandoned_Shanty_v1_.espTheElderCouncil.espSNRI_RumareIsland.espSN_Sunset_Cottage.espFileOne.espCrownJewels.espICEXPAND.espVexend Race.espKvatchAftermath.espMalevolent.espNatural_Weather_HDR_by_Max_Tael.espVHBloodlines 1.2.espNatural_Vegitation_200%_by_Max_Tael.espMountainTower.espBrighter_Torches.espOrigin Of The Mages Guild.espDuplicate_Item_Spell.espNatural_Habitat_by_Max_Tael.espP1DkeyChain.espNatural_Water_by_Max_Tael.espRTT.espNaruto_pack.espIt's A Wig!.espMuffinGoldenDishes.espSM_Headbands.espTSS Custom Companion Template.espAuras.espKF Chapel Shop.espToaster Says Share Faction Recruitment.espDLCFroscrag.espMidasSpells.espElssweyrAnequina.espSharingan and Uchiha Clan.esp i also have darnifiedui loaded as omod and i've played through the game using these mods before with no problems, so i doubt it is a conflict issue, and certainly has nothing to do with computer hardware. bben46
I can't believe you typed out that whole list - here is an easier way How to use OBMM to make a load order list for posting. Open OBMM - if you don't have it, get it. It is needed for a lot of things when you work with mods. Look on the right, you will see a box with 'Import/Export'. Click that. Then select the first option, 'View Load Order' A new window will open with only your active mods listed in their load order. Any unchecked mods will not appear in this list. Use your mouse to highlight the entire list, then left click on the highlighted list. A box will open with Cut, copy paste. Select copy – DO NOT SELECT CUT! Now you can close the window and close OBMM (This might take a few minutes as OBMM takes a while to close.) Go to where you want to put the load order list – I recommend creating either a text document or a word processing document and naming it load order and the date (load order 6-22-08.txt) Then open that document, place your cursor at the beginning and right click. Select paste. This should copy your load order into the document. Now, to get the load order into a post, open the forum, find where you want to place the load order list and paste it. The copied text will be inserted where you place the mouse cursor. If you want to keep a copy for your own use, make a text file and past the same list into it. Then 'save as' and give it a name that you will remember, such as Load list-1.txt Be sure to manually input that you are using OBMM and if you are using them, OBSE and WryeBash as they are not really mods, but utility programs and will not show in the list. Also, any texture and mesh only mods will not show as the list only displays esp and esm from mods. BOSS is another utility, also used outside of the game. If you are using BOSS, you will need OBMM also as any mod not recognized by BOSS will be placed at the end of the load order. OBMM will allow manual placing of mods in the load order.
