Kissimurra Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 My Norton Internet Security expires on monday so I need a new firewall/antivirus! What's the best free firewall/antivirus program out there? What do you use?
Community Manager Dark0ne Posted November 26, 2005 Community Manager Posted November 26, 2005 I use AVG Free for anti-virus and if I actually had a firewall I'd use Zone Alarm.
Marxist ßastard Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I used to run Avast Antivirus and Sygate Personal Firewall, but by far my best experience has been behind a hardware firewall (antivirus isn't strictly necessary here).
loveme4whoiam Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 How easy is it to install those? Is it simply a case of plug-and-go, or is there a lot of fiddly stuff that might cause my PC to explode (hey, it could happen  )? I use Norton because I'm too lazy to get anything better, but when I get my new PC I may shell out for NOD32, that's supposed to be fantastic. Not that it helps you though, since you want a free one :D . I used AVG Free for some time and that was pretty good, and that combined with ZoneAlarm was a nice package.
Marxist ßastard Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 plug-and-go Do you really expect me to honor that with a response? If you want "plug-and-go," then you obviously aren't serious about security.

Serious about security? Hell yes. Experienced with security? Hell no. I'll take it from your overly aggressive and needlessly insulting response that hardware firewalls aren't simple to use, at least for those of us who don't regularly rewire our own graphics cards. Thanks for answering my post, although next time I think I'd prefer a dignified silence if you find my question so utterly beneath your majesty.
