Realistic Pickpocket

I have recently decided to play Oblivion again and I am getting really annoyed by the fact that pickpocketing an NPC is so goddamn unrealistic in Oblivion. Even if you have Sneak maxed to 100 and use a spell to give you +300 Sneak for a few seconds and you have over 50% Chameleon at all times and you walk up to a low level NPC (even if he/she is sleeping) and attempt to pickpocket them the chance of beeing detected is irrealistically high.

So the only way of beeing successful as a pickpocket is binding Quicksave and Quickload to the left and right mousebutton, because they are the only way of succeeding eventually.

I have looked everywhere for a mod that makes pickpocketing more realistic and possible even throws the fracking chanced based system overboard.

Does anyone know about a mod for this?

Whats your thieving level? You need that more than sneak.

Sneak level only changes how hard it is for them to not detect you when you are coming up to them, thieving level is how hard it is to detect when your touching them, trying to take things out of their pockets. Completely different things.

I have never heard of Thieving as a skill, and I am pretty sure that the success of a pickpocket attempt is dependant on the sneak level, the distance to the target and perhaps luck. In any case the chance for succeeding is fracking low.

I meant security, I couldn't remember the name right away so I said thieving.

ramanov is the eye crosshair transparent when you pickpocket? If it's gold that means someone can see you.

Also, try not to steal too many things. You can slip a couple items out, but if you keep taking stuff they're going to realize that somebody is digging in their pocket.

It's possible they have a high sneak skill.

Or try this mod :

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1866

The description :

1.1 notes-

Increased normal sneaking movement from 60% normal to 80% normal.

Increased maximum sneaking distance to equal max arrow distance.

It should now be impossible to sneak while holding a light source.

Sleeping targets are now much less likely to detect having their pockets picked.

1.0 notes -

I created this mod because after reaching Master rank in Sneaking I discovered that the master-level perk either doesn't work, doesn't exist, or has negligably small effect. The game says your sneak attacks ignore enemy armor but after testing it using the console extensively I could not detect any increase in damage against a broad range of targets. Don't be shocked at the new values, a stealth-focused character with low fighting skills doesn't suddenly become an unstoppable killer.

May help you.

P.S : I don't believe the security skill also affect pickpocketing, but agility may.

I'm not one for stealing so I used google to find some of these answers (take 'em with a grain of salt until they are proven)

Sneaking skill affects your ability to pick-pocket.

Wearing boots affects your sneaking ability (increases noise level and attention from those nearby)

Your success rate will be determined by sheer random luck, sneak skills, and the weight of the item you're stealing.

When in stealth mode you can steal goods from an NPCs body by selecting them. Note that this doesn't mean nobody can see you. Note also that the heavier (or more numerous, in the case of gold) the item is that you are trying to steal, the higher the chance is that you will be detected and a small bounty will be placed on your head. Stealing will also lower the disposition towards you in the victim.

Weightless items can be "given" to NPCs via pick-pocketing...called reverse pick-pocketing

When you pickpocket from someone who is already hostile towards you, the items you steal do not seem to be categorized as stolen.

Note that whilst in stealth you cannot talk to NPCs. Try not to accidentally pick one's pockets while just trying to engage smalltalk.

Sneaking Rules

* You first have to be undetected to steal from people.

* It's easier to steal at night since the visibility at night is lower than during the day.

* Stealing larger and heavier items makes it easier for you to get caught.

Tip: Remember to do a quicksave before each pickpocketing attempt. Then you can reload if you fail.

Another method is to use an Invisibility spell or scroll. However, even though you are invisible, you still need to take caution. After you steal from a person, your invisible state ends. If you have a Chameleon percentage above 100% you can usually steal without being detected.

Pickpocket Unconscious Essential NPCs

When an Essential NPC is knocked unconscious, if you click on their body quickly, the moment they regain consciousness, you have access to their inventory (pickpocket). You can pickpocket any un-equipped item, or place zero-weight items there. They never "catch" you, although you may get a bounty for other reasons. You can exploit this by placing enchanted zero-weight items to assist them later, or take something that they might normally catch you taking. You can also pickpocket them this way, even if you've already been "caught" pickpocketing them that day already. It doesn't matter if you knock them out yourself, or if they're knocked out by some other means.

Alternatives to pick-pocketing:

If you don't want to pickpocket, but you want something from that person you can summon a daedra which uses a long range attack. Hit the daedra three times and then run towards the back of the NPC that you want dead. When you are successful making the daedra hit the NPC, the NPC will fight the Daedra. Do this a couple of times until the person is dead. Afterwards, salvage the items from the dead person. You won't get any bounty points by doing this method. This is the hard way of getting items from another person, and is not pickpocketing.

You can use a Frenzy spell to force the NPC to attack you first, thus you'll be "defending yourself" and won't get a bounty.

Glitches:

Clear the Stolen Flag on Apparel:

In addition to standard ways of clearing the stolen flag on items, there is a glitch that can be exploited for wearable items, as long as you have more than one of the item. In the case of Armor, all pieces should be fully repaired so they have identical statistics.

* If you have one non-stolen and one stolen item, alternately equipping the two items repeatedly will clear the stolen flag.

* If you have two stolen items, equipping one item makes the second one appear legitimate. Dropping this item, then dropping the other, still marked stolen, will clear the stolen flag on both.
