David Brasher
When I have been searching for mods to download, I have watched for mods with new Oblivion gates. I have never really found any to download. I wondered why. Then I started to make an Oblivion gate mod. I found out how difficult the scripting is. I wondered if that was why so few were being made and why I couldn't find any to download and play. I finally uploaded my mod: Oblivion Gate But alas. There have been 1405 people look at it, and only 67 download it. That is a very bad ratio. Worse than the ratio for the average uploaded mod. The questions I have for the community are these: Do you dislike Oblivion gates and not enjoy them? Is the subject matter the reason that no one wants to download Oblivion gate mods? Would my modding time be better spent on something else? If so, what else should it be spent on?
Retribution
I hate Oblivion gates. They're all the same. One of my all time most-wanted mods is something that actually makes them scary, hard, fun, etc. I'm going to check out your mod now.
Branimirzg
There is enough Oblivion gates in vanilla...I dont see point exploring them....You should focus on small towns with quests EDIT: I see that you have done more than just oblivion gate I will try it.... Illiad86
I like Oblivion Gates :) But they do get rather droning. Your one looked cool, but I just don't like it trashing Cloud Ruler Temple. I'd like to see more Daedric stuff honestly...like a shrine :) I loved the Daedric shrines in Morrowind and how they were styled. Love it to explore and also as a house :D
Siojo
Someone released a Morrowind like Daedric Shrine today, heh.
grmblf
hey you could do a poll with that. Personaly I don't like them so much. They all look the same, there's no chance for surprises, everyone there is an enemy so dialoges = 0, and to get it worst almost every enemy is a beast with poor loot and daedric armor isn't lootable, ... the only reason I play them is to complete the MQ, really IMO the sigil stone isn't a sufficient motivation or reward (at least for me).Anyway, a mod that could change some of these things would be great - I mean surprises and npc interaction, we got enought trasures! David Brasher
My Oblivion gate has some surprises and NPC interaction. I guess it was my reaction to the things that I found lacking in vanilla Oblivion gates.
hellchosen
yea i have to admit oblivion gates are pretty boring what i would like is npcs real towns cus after all just cus the dremora are demons doesnt mean they wouldnt have towns they live in <_< also since the one guy in mancor camorans paradise is a daedra they can obviously be civil so npc interaction is a must and i will look at your mod again maybe even try it out lol
LHammonds
Do you dislike Oblivion gates and not enjoy them?I lost my enthusiasm for the gates about the 3rd time through due to the repetition. Made me wish I had a magical flying carpet so I could go straight to the sigil stone and put an end to it quickly. Is the subject matter the reason that no one wants to download Oblivion gate mods?I believe certain "kinds" of mods will draw all kinds of attention while others are specialty niche-filling mods and the quality / fun-factor of them is what sways the numbers in the long term. How you market and advertise your mod also plays into the mix but the content type will initially determine the "popularity" but the quality / fun-factor will help the longevity. Also, the more mods uploaded to this site, the smaller the audience will be per mod. Another point about marketing your mod is this: The very-most important and descriptive words you can give your mod should be the 1st sentence or two...the rest is likely to never be read. Same goes for the screenshots. The primary screenshot should convey the crux of your entire mod and be clear...even as a thumbnail image. Would my modding time be better spent on something else?If the point of the mod was popularity then I'd say you're modding for the wrong reasons and will never be satisfied. If so, what else should it be spent on?Create the mods YOU want to play and enjoy creating them. It will show in the quality of the mod you release if you were excited about creating it or not. Dontino
Oblivion gates are VERY BORING after 2 or 3 times. I wouldn't mind a mod that removes them completely, and instead has you fight a few waves of Daedra from each before they close and you get a sigil. ... Hey actually that's not a bad idea... Hmm ...
