kr3mlin
Hey all I'm a long time lurker and first time poster here and I wanted to spread the word about my new mod project for Fallout 3. It is entitled the Wasteland Commentaries. The aim of the project is to create an audio commentary track for Fallout 3 that is accessible in-game via audio holotapes. If successful the Wasteland Commentaries will take some discussions of the game into the spaces that inspired them and provide greater context for reflection. With this post I am looking for contributors who wish to submit audio tracks that provide anecdotes, commentary, analysis or even humor relating to their experience with Fallout 3. Anyone wishing to contribute will need to send the following for each entry: 1. Audio dialogue saved at 44kHz sample rate, 16 bits per sample and in mono. The file format is .wav only 2. A transcript of the audio to include on screen. The limitations of the game mean that only 150 characters will appear at a time so it might be best to script what you plan to say and separate it into sections around this length (there is no maximum size for any dialogue submitted though) 3. The location in the game you wish for your commentary track to be placed. This might be somewhere you like in the game or the source of your comments, it is entirely up to you. I would prefer as much detail as possible with screenshots and savegames from PC players being ideal. I am looking for mature and clear audio recordings for the benefit of eventual users of the mod so please take this into consideration when recording your submissions. All entries and any questions can be sent to fallout_gerard [AT] yahoo [DOT] com [DOT] au. Finally, if you know anyone who would like to contribute to the project please pass this information on to them, the success of this project will ultimately lie in the presentation of a large amount of quality comments and responses to Fallout 3. I will be posting updates on my progress as I make them both here and on my site www.binary-swan.com Cheers
Skree000
this sounds really interesting. I may contribute, but i have a question :) What kind of context of commentaries are you looking for? can you give some examples of do's and dont's for what you want? ie. commentaries relating to in-game lore? or maybe lore people made up relating to ingame places?commentaries about modding the game, such as what meshes/textures are used in what areas, recycled props... technical stuff? (im going to assume no to this stuff, since its an in-game radio channel, which usually means people are wanting to Immerse themselves in fallout3-canon. this is a cool idea, but do you want to implement it kind of like... Dvd extras 'behind the scenes' or 'making of' type commentaries? or what? heh
kr3mlin
Thanks for your interest I am approaching this from the game blogosphere area so the first group of people I contacted were those who wrote broader commentary about the game itself. The kind of commentary I hope to get won't be the immersive kind but rather more like the things you would see on a DVD commentary except about the communities experience. If someone has made a mod or lore about the game they want to discuss I would look for them to give an account about how the game inspired them or some element in the game that they felt would work with their creation. Alternatively if someone simply wants to give an account of something in their playthrough that was special they can create a tape for that as well. One of my own ideas for the few comments I plan for myself is talking about the stories I created in my head when exploring some skeleton of a town, how I would look at the items in a house and imagine who might have lived there based on them I hope this answers your question, if not please feel free to ask more :)
Xanorak
Sounds interesting, but it might be kinda boring to listen to while fighting Super Mutants :D
gsmanners
I hope people take an interest in your idea. I especially would love to hear commentary about all the cosmetic bugs, the wild-goose chase parts of the map, the hard and very hard locked containers that have nothing worth looking at, etc.
