how can you set a mod to work for a certain PLAYER instead of all the

I have come across a problem because i share this game with family and friends i want a mod that alters gameplay but the others dont so i need a way to enable mods for certain PLAYERS and not others could anyone help?

That's kind of tricky and I haven't tested this myself yet, but it should work...

 

So, if you install Fallout you can define, if you only use the Program for yourself or for anyone to your computer. Just choose the option that means sth like "install only for me".

 

Therefore you may need to reinstall fallout. It's recommended to do it the "clean" way. Have a look at *** Point VI .... Reinstalling Fallout 3 ***

 

For the reinstall you'd be better choose a specific location

like C:\Games\I JUST AM A GAME ADDICT\Fallout

Now choose the "only for me" option

and add your mods there.

 

Then > > > create a new user account < < < for your family and your friends and install the game to C:\Games\My beloved Families and Friends\Fallout

... and again only for this account

 

As of now you should be able to mod those games separately, just log into the account you want to play.

I've heard bben46 talk about installing Oblivion multiple times on the same PC but in different directories (folders) and use a batch file to rename the "active" game directory to the last name installed since it shares a single location in the registry. For your situation, I'd go one step further and have multiple "My Games" folders too which contain the program INI and save files to match which install is active.

 

I've heard this described for Oblivion but I would think it would work the same way for FO3.

Yep, should work too.

 

So depends ...

If your PC is used by many users, I would go for different user accounts and different installations.

 

If you only want to run several Fallout Mod sets, bbens method by renameing the game directories will work as well
