XTgrndr
I have a a halfway planned idea of a map modification I wish to make for New Vegas. But as I'm new to modding, I don't know where to begin. I'll give you the basic idea of my outline: I want to set up a missionline that chains off the completion of:Keep Your Eyes on the Prize, preferably completed in favor of the NCR by annihalating the Legion occupying Nipton. As an additional criteria, this should be a NCR only mission, as it's intended for their side of the story. If you're a Legion supporter, well, Ghost should tell you where to go. And she won't be giving you directions to the nearest bar, if you catch my drift. :wink:Ideally, it should award NCR fame as well if that's possible. The mission will progress in various stages, each one slightly changing the visual appearance of Nipton up until completion. The mission will be initially granted by Ghost after you completed the mission above, then handed off to another custom NPC who will be standing near her. This will probably be the hardest part to implement, as I have to make a new NPC from scratch and code the dialogue wheel. The last time I tried to make a dialogue coding, it failed horribly and I still haven't worked out why! The NPC will then be your contact for the remainder of the mission, getting you to gather troops to hold Nipton, procure support personnel for rebuilding once the troops are stationed onsite, getting materials to build gun emplacements and finally, a showdown with an invading Legion battlegroup where the NPC fights at your side, then executes the battlegroup leader when they are all slain by you and your forces. After this final step, I'd like to have the NPC relocate to the mayor's office, where the building will also change, being converted into a NCR command post. Also, if it's possible, I'd like to have Cass (if present) do something unique, either through dialogue or action if she's present for the troop gathering section, just for laughs/or character reference. And a criteria is that it must not conflict with this mod (after installation):Nipton Revisited But since I've never done anything like this before, I need as much tutorials as I can get to allow me to do this. I'm aware this is quite ambitious for a first mod, but I have to learn somehow.Feel free to tell me if you think I'm overreaching myself though and it's just not possible. The author doesn't mind so long as you credit him. Though I personally would like to see a mod like this, if this is your first mod ever you will likely be unable to solve most, if not all problems you encounter by yourself. Making a few basic mods first helps you understand how the GECK works and gives you a few ideas of things to try if something doesn't work. It is far more efficient to be able to solve most problems by yourself, and otherwise you will likely get bored of the lack of progress. Not that I want to discourage you or anything. XTgrndr
I have dabbled a little in modding before. I modified the New Vegas open strip mod to remove a certain eyesore and construct the fence that isn't there by removing it. I did try to make a Companion, but the dialogue tree completely broke down, even though I was following the steps precisely. That project has been shelved indefinitely until I get more experience. This was the next thing I could think of doing. From my point of view, the only way to learn is by doing, if I'm just moving buildings around, I'll never learn anything. I did initially try to modify the Nipton Revisited mod, but I couldn't find Ghost after I loaded it.Not sure what variables are implemented there.
