Networking In Win 98se

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to network the other two computers in the house via the router (both of the computers are running Win98SE). Everything seems to be fine on one of the computers - its network neighbourhood shows both computers in the workgroup - but the other one can't even find itself... when trying to access 'network neighbourhood' an error message appears telling us that the network is not accessible. Yet the connection to the router is fine, and the firewall has been set to allow access to the other computer... I've compared the network components and settings on both computers, and apart from the computers having different network adapters can't see anything obviously different in the settings. There also nothing obvious in the firewall settings which would indicate that access to the network is being blocked.

The MS help files are unhelpful as ever, so I was hoping to get some help here!

PS: Installing a different operating system is, at this point, not an option.
