Portcullis - setting switches

I have a mod in building at the moment, I want to put a portcullis just outside the gate, to be operated by a switch both inside and outside the castle. Unfortunately, I can only find details for one to be opened ONLY from the inside.

I would appreciate it if someone could help me out here.

I am making this mod, I have a gate in place, but as it is an opening gate, I want a portcullis that can be lowered from outside the gate as well as the inside. I do realise that the switches - and probably the poprtcullis would need to be activators, that's no real problem.

If you already have the inside details, you just need to apply it to the outside one. I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to find details for opening it from the outside, but as far as I know TES-CS Oblivion doesn't really care whether or not the switch is inside or outside.

Or do you mean an interior cell switch vs. an exterior cell?

If that's the case, you can still apply the activator to the portcullis in an exterior cell. Perhaps the easiest example I can think of is one of the sewer doors that you activate a turning wheel and it opens.

Check for any of the sewers in and around the Imperial City for those wheels and then I'm sure you could use the script/details of those for your own gate with the proper modifications of Form ID and script names.

I see what you're getting at, but I can see that we're talking a bit at cross purposes here. In the sketch below (I know it's a bit rough, but you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about fro it), you'll see what I want to do.

On the gatehouse, there is the normal gate arch, in the middle of this - it's grooved for a portcullis, I want to fit a portcullis, on the inside of that I want to put the actual castle gate. Added to all this I want to put an operating switch on the INSIDE and the OUTSIDE of the wall as shown.

I've put them to one side of the actual gate opening, they could just as easily be on the other side.

What you need to do is find switches that work off of parenting. Have both switches set with the gate as the parent. Then, both switches can be used to raise/lower the same gate. The only downside to this is that the switches won't share animation states (only an issue with switches that have definitive on/off states) without additional scripting which would require unique scripts for each case.

To ProzaicMuze and Vagrant0

Thanks very much for your helpful replies, now I can go ahead with this - would you believe that THIS is what has held up the exterior for a good while! :thanks:
