Game won't start.

I got a bug while playing Fallout 3 where the screen started tearing in intervals. I quicksaved during one of the "pauses", quickly exited, reinstalled my graphics driver and installed Vista SP2 because I hadn't done that yet. Now when I try to start the game I get a popup that says "Failed to initialize renderer. Unknown error creating the Gamebryo Renderer."

What's wrong, and how do I fix it?

download k-lite codec pack and make sure fallout 3 is in the exclusion list, update GFWL to the latest version, get the latest driver (which you seem to have).

make sure you have the 1.7 patch installed

also if you use DLC's, its always a good idea to install F3, run it once (new game save first time you can and exit) and only after that install the DLC's.

some Asus boards seem to cause problems with direct3D 3D3 (dunno if thats true though don't have an asus board) you can disable that for testing purposes by running: dxdiag

after that you can try fomm's xlive fake

and if all that fails, make a backup of your savegames, uninstall the game and do a clean install, i assume the SP2 would be a good reason it causes trouble.

also whats your PC setup ? especially graphics and do you match the min requirements ?

2.4 Ghz pentium 4, 2 gb ram, rad.x950

I match the requirements, and I have SP2... installed it earlier today. You're saying that causes problems? 'cause I could run the game again after restarting my computer, but I'm getting random CTD's now. Do I have to uninstall SP2, and how do I do that? I'd rather not, so is there some kind of fix?

And I have a pirated version since I'm short on money and can't buy the real thing yet, but I have all the DLC and 1.7 installed. And it ran just fine before installing SP2.

It sounds like to me you installed your driver wrong, Try deleting the saved game you saved during this using FOMM, Also try running as administrator. Also check your service providers websites for updates regarding your computer. Theres always restoring your computer to a previous time such as a day before you installed sp2 and see how that goes aswell. To uninstall SP2 you need to go to add and remove programs you should be able to find it there. If you need any additional help finding out how to uninstall SP2 send me a pm please.

Have you already tryed to reset your gfx settings?

It may help to move all *.ini files in your my games folder somewhere else.

Do the same with the render.txt file. Then start the default launcher and have a look, if it changed sth...
