installing body mods, prolbem with babs

Is it possible to use OBMM to install this, so it is easy to turn off and on? I have tried reading the help, but it doesn't really tell, and im afraid of messing up my game yet again.

I was using exnems with sickleyields, and wanted to try babs instead. I wasn't sure how to remove the exnems, so I reinstalled my game, rebuilt all my mods, using omods as much as possible, and then went to install BABs, the installation instructions in there aren't very clear, I am pretty sure I put everything in the right place.

My game loads fine. The shop is there. The problem is when I try on the clothes, there are weird holes in the dresses etc, my hands are HUGE and don't meet up with my arms. I can look at the dressin in nifscope, they look perfect. but not in my game.

Right now I don't have the nude body, but I guess for a lot of the outfits, you really need to, as the underwear cuts through. I was hoping to keep the underwear, or at least be able to turn it on and off, as I have sons who also play the game, but I can live with them seeing the nudes if thats the only way I can get the nice clothes.

I used BOSS to set my load order, still had the problems, moved the babs files down a bit, below OOO, still problems.

I am thinking of starting over, again, and trying to build an omod to install this, but the file is huge and complicated, what with the esm, 3 esps, 2 more rar packed files etc and i don't know what i am doing.

Is there a tutorial or guide just on body mods, or body, hair and eyes? Im tackling the hairs and eyes next (I had BP + soya, but haven't reinstalled that yet). I wanted to have my game pretty much set up before I tried using wrye's bash patch.

What you are seeing is called clipping. It is caused when part of one texture overlays another. In your case I believe it may be caused by clothing that was not specifically made for the body you are using.

As for the hands, do you have more than one body installed? Even if it is disabled it can cause problems as just disabling a mod does not remove the textures and meshes.

Underwear is not going to matter, as the dress mesh and texture replaces the body part underneath. The underwear, or even the nude body is not there when clothing is worn over it.

This is why I am confused. I installed babs body, and these are the clothes from the babs shop esp.

I have the steam version of oblivion, GOTY with all plug-ins. Yesterday I completely deleted oblivion, and reloaded a clean installation. I put in my basic mods, the unofficial patches, OOO etc.

And then installed babs. I haven't installed any other body mods. I don't see what it could be conflicting with.

This is my load order:

I dont want to add back any more (hair eyes etc) til i get the body working.

Edit: still trying to fix, i had made a copy of my data file before i reinstalled oblivion, and another just before I installed babs. Now I noticed that in the pre-babs data file, I have a data file inside my data file...

Inside this file (oblivion/data/data) is:

folder: bash patches

folder: docs

folder: INI Tweaks

Archive Invalidation Invalidated

this must be from one of the mods i installed prior to babs, or one of the utilities (obmm, BOSS, OBSE, wyre bash). the bash patches folder makes me think maybe wrye bash.

Should i just copy the contents into the first level data file? That would overwrite the archive Invalidation Invalidated that is already there.

Ok, still working and struggling with this.

I reverted to the data folder from before I installed the babs.

Then I went ahead and dumped the contents of that data folder into oblivion/data.

I used OBMM and created an omod from the original whole archive as downloaded. This took hours to make, but it finally just finished.

The OMOD is red. I ran the data file and scripts conflict thing, and a long page comes up, filled with

Data file Textures/clothes/biuclothes....dds already exists

no data found on files

and so on.

I went into the data file, and sure enough all those files are there, tho they weren't before I started making the OMOD. I don't really understand how OBMM works, usually I just click create and keep my fingers crossed, and it works. =) I kinda thought the whole idea behind doing an omod for these was so that your files didn't get overwritten in case you wanted to uninstall.

So I am clueless as what to do now, again, as usual. The help file says this list shows what will get overwritten if i activate the omod. I think that is ok, as they are the files for this mod. right?

wondering if i should just try it and see what happens??

Progress update: I created the omod, which took forever, and when it came up red, overwrote all the texture/mesh files that popped up as conflicts.

The good news is that the body now works.

The bad news is that while I was wandering around checking out npcs, I crashed to desktop several times. I have never had a CTD except when already exiting game. I am running mods that I have run before, the only new thing is the babs.

My load order is as above, I used BOSS to order it and it acted like it knew where to put the babs.

Is it likely the CTDs are caused by load order? Where do I begin trying to figure this out? Move the babs stuff up the order? move it down the order?

I am going explore some more and see if it is in certain areas or circumstances that I crash.

In the meantime, any suggestions would be great.

General Load-Order Guidelines

Here are the guidelines that I adhere to, personally.

~ Unofficial Oblivon Patch should always be first on the list. The fixes are great, but most aren't essential, so if a mod overwrites them its not a big deal, and the fixes have the potential for screwing up other mods if loaded later.

~ Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN)

~ Major overhaul mods (OOO, Frans, MMM) should be loaded near the end. That gives you the most complete experience with any of those particular mods. It also lets you carefully choose which other mods to load afterwards... only move mods that you know will conflict and that you want the changes from. For example, I have Improved Soul Gems below OOO because I know that OOO changes the icons of some of the SG's, and ISG needs to be below to show through.

Some people will recommend putting larger mods first, but personally I disagree. There are a number of mods out there that make minor tweaks, and loading after a large mod will end up completely overwriting a chunk from one of the bigger mods because of the way conflicts work in Oblivion (even one minor change will take precedence over the entire record... for example, simply tweaking the speed of a weapon can cause every stat of that weapon to be retained to vanilla levels if loaded later).

So basically, it stacks up like this...

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Minor Mods / DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mod/Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

Note: If using Mayu's Overhaul Mod. I recommend loading it after OOO or MMM

Expanded Load-Order Guidelines

by dev_akm

I would extend this to include:

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Weather/Environment/Sound Mods>

<Minor Mods/New Items/Houses/DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

<Quests>

<Compatibility Patches/UOMP/Merged Leveled Lists>

And a special-case warning for Knights.esp (Knights of the Nine) -- you may not be able to move it earlier than some other mods (some people have had problems after moving it before OOO, for example).

That's basically the structure I use and I have 140+ mods working well together.

Another way of describing this (posted by DMan77):

....

Oblivion

unoffical patch

Deeper realism mods that add sights and sounds

added content like weapons/items

gameplay changes, like 'must eat and sleep'

The OOO type

the 'new begining' type mod..

maigrets...You should also follow Dezi's load order guide if you're new to mods. BOSS is good, but not foolproof. There are a lot of mods it doesn't have in it's database and they have to be ordered manually.

One would think that the Bab's shop would work with the Bab's body, but such does not seem to be in your case. I'm using the Bab's Boutique clothing store with the Team Fantasy Female body and the UFF Bab's Conversion mod and I'm not having any problems with them. If you are not totally smitten with the Bab's body you might give that a try. Robert's Female Body is the up and coming thing right now, but I haven't used it with Bab's clothing to say whether it will work or not.
