Disappointed

I had heard people talking about the Uderfrykte Matron and had been to Dive Rock a couple of times. I always meant to go back and play that quest someday.

But it didn't work out right. My level 43 mage was dashing pell-mell across Cyrodiil to reach the location of an important play-test. The music changed and I heard a noise behind me. I summoned my daedroth and turned to face the creature which had already fallen and injured itself a couple of times chasing me on steep mountains. My daedroth hit it a couple of times and I hit it with three fire/drain health spells and it was dead! I was sad. I was in a hurry to get someplace, but I was expecting an epic boss battle. I didn't even get hit once.

I will have to go back and play the quest at leisure with a low-level character.

What were your experiences with the Uderfrykte Matron?

Roughly the same, but nowhere near as epic the first time around. I stumbled upon it by chance, didn't even hear the music or see the spawn. By the time it had gotten close enough to attack me it was already missing most of its life, so a single fire damage spell killed it. Meaning that the matron had pretty much slipped and fallen off a cliff and I was just given the job of putting it out of its misery.

I made a mod with a retex a good while back. It seemed to improve things a bit with the encounter since I also beefed up the spawn and made it more formidable. Not sure what happened to it though.

If you are on dive rock, looking out over the cliff toward Cheydinhal, then the Matron is about 150 yards to your left, down the hill a bit, near a lonely clump of trees. I don't mean at the bottom of the cliff, but still way up here near the top. Back away from the cliff and turn left = east. walk along and look downhill until you see a clump of trees standing alone in an otherwise barren area, and then head for those trees.

The matron is generally hard to see until almost right on top of you, being very highly camo-ed. A good longrange detect life spell works wonders for finding her. Look for a corpse on the ground to help find the spot.

When I saw the Uderfrycte Matron, she was chameleoned with a strange sort of frost effect flashing here and there. I can't think of anything else I have seen in the game that uses a shader like that.

When I fought her she still had full health, and attacked my level 5 character with prejudice. it wasn't the long, hard battle that was really memorable though - It was that fact that as I was happily strolling through the wilds, suddenly a bandit's body crashes down in front of me. Then I see this flashing blue monstrosity appear out of almost nowhere, falling from what seemed to be the sky, and start rampaging. I'd never heard of the matron at that point, and because of the flashing I couldn't tell what the shape of the matron was. it was one of the crazier battles of my gaming experience, as I was setting myself up to defend against either something that moved like a snake or was a ball with five limbs. it was weird.

When I had fought the Matron, I was on my third or fourth playthrough, Never hearing of the Matron I was heading to Dive Rock for the Extra Spots, but when I started heading up the hill, I found what seemed to be a battle axe at the very bottom. I Shrugged and kept going but I thought about where the axe fell hoping to find better armor than I already had. I had found the person but when I tried to get his armor for some reason it said "You cannot pick up the armor of fallen enemies" or something like that as it says in the arena. After I took off the message, I get hit in the back and get knocked down, I was at the last inch of my life.(I had the diffuclty up more than regular) I ran away looking back to see if it was still chasing me, thats when I noticed the chameleon it had, though i could still see it because it had some sort of Light Blue Lines on it, anyway, I had ran away far enough to where I found Dive Rock, when the Matron Reached me, I thought fast, I did a running jump off the cliff but not far enough to where I couldnt back-up and jump back on, the Matron Ran towards me even though I jumped and just ran off. I was relieved my plan worked.

After that, the rest of the time I was playing all I thought was: Wa-wa-WaAaAaaaa...

LOL
