From Mojlnir:

So, the two party system is not stupid, it just works for us. Sure, a little more accurate representation would be appreciated, but the Congress really hasn't evolved to handle a more parlimentary system. Our system is not any more corrupt or ineffective than the next, they all work pretty much the same.

I would agree with that, the American system is not any more corrupt that the British one, or anyone else's, but it is far from perfect. It is my fervent belief you will never get a perfect political system while you rely on people actually seeking power, but I don't see an alternative.

From Feanor11:

This question is OT, but for all those Brits out there, how is the American Revolution taught in school?

Don't know about anyone else's school, but in mine, it wasn't. It was touched on briefly, but never gone into in any detail.

BTW, George Washington (hope you know him http://mwsource.com/forum/html//emoticons/smile.gif ) warned against the formation of political parties in his farewell speech, but no one payed attention. It might seem limited and dysfunctional to some, but it's created the world's only superpower in less than 250 years. Quite a track record.

Well I'm an American who went to British boarding school and the answer is as minor part of the preamble to the French Revolution and the same goes for the War of 1812 which they simply call the Maritime War.

Wow, someone really likes to be a necromancer, there are 5-6 dead threads that have been revived.

Umm, you do realise you are replying to a 8 year-old post, right?
