TechnoChick
I love Oblivion. I think it is the greatest PC game ever made. I just wish there were some people I could talk about it with. Thusly, I devised the following experiment: Ok, at my school we have over one thousand kids. I thought I was the only one who knew what Oblivion was... until I drew the oblivion logo on the back of my hand. Guess how many kids recognized it? Two. Out of 1000, two. Three, if you count me. Four if you count my brother. Four out of 1000. 1 out of 250. That's pathetic. Oh, and a LOT of kids asked what it was. They have no idea what the game is. We gotta spread the word. Make the game well known. If we do, that means Bethesda is going to get more money. If Bethesda gets more money, then might start making ANOTHER ELDER SCROLLS GAME! If you want another game, you all have to work for it. Tell your friends. Recommend it to people. Or, even better, give it to people as a gift. The more, the merrier, as some person once said. One final note: Think about it. You started playing before your friends did. This means you are better then them. I'm talking serious bragging rights, here! ESPECIALLY if you have Mods. OBLIVION FANS: UNITE AND LET THE WORLD KNOW WE ARE HERE!
SickleYield
Oblivion with mods requires a PC able to play it. If you're high school age or younger, odds are good most people at your school who game are console gamers. And of those, most will not be playing a sandbox fantasy game, they'll be playing Modern Warfare 2. The other thing is that Oblivion is a solo game, and most high school-age gamers who do any PC gaming do it socially. A lot of us who are seriously into the modding community are older and used to flying solo.
SavageArtistry
http://savageartistry.darkbb.com/users/1114/74/52/47/smiles/973334.gif I'm sorry, your post made me think of some televangelist trying to spread the gospel. I can see it now "Oblivion! There is no other game before thee!"
Jenrai
First off, I'm not bashing you. On the contrary, I loved your post. The second best thing I've discovered about Nexus is that you guys always manage to make me smile. You're over looking 2 minor problems though. 1 - At school, Obi ain't going to be all that popular... its also an older game now, and heaven forbid, kids should be tarnished for playing a game thats 10 years old when they could be playing, as Sickle said, MW2 (excellent, btw) or Dragon Age (good, but its not in Oblivion's league) True, from as fans standpoint, a great game never gets "old" ... and the new content added by the lovely chaps here at Nexus for absolutely sod all (WIN!) not to mention all the tools to make your own mods (takes practice, ain't easy, but you learn so, so much more about games when you are actually making them that even if you only try it once and make a complete bloody hash of it its well worth it) not to mention the size of the original game, means that in another ten years, Oblivion will still be playable, and there will still be new things for you to find/see/do/kill. MWII, and probably Dragon Age (not 100% sure how moddable thats gonna be yet) will be lining the shelves of the second hand game stores.2 - I hope I'm giving you some really good news here, and not coming across as a sanctimonious asshat like I sometimes do... I assure you if I do its not deliberate... but Bethesda ARE working on TESV ... and have been for quite a while. Its preliminary release date was October next year, I think, though I would expect that to be put back to at least Xmas. Maybe 2011. ;) Jen
dezdimona
oblivion is not 10 years old...where did you get that idea from?I've been playing it since day one and frankly care less about whether its know to everyone. That I enjoy it and can make it my own personal world, thats its appeal for me. 3rdtryguy
Here's an idea for finding players or maybe sparking interest: Make a T-shirt featuring a big black handprint and the words "What is the color of night?" ( either via computer-printable iron-on sheets or a silk screener, both available at WalMart ) Players will walk up to you and say "sanguine, my brother" while everyone else will just want to know what's up with your shirt, thereby giving you a perfect opportunity to tell them all about this most awesome game. Jenrai
lol. I didn't mean literally Dezdimona. Literally? 3 and a half. March 20, 2006, IIRC. But that still makes it "old hat" to those of us who don't remember the early 90s. ;) And by the way... I've been playing it since day one too. Had to take a bit of a break, but I knew as soon as I could replace my comp the first thing I would be installing was Obi. In my opinion, still the best fantasy game out there by a country mile, and then some. Jen**Edit - Updated because I can't tell that the difference between 06 and 09 is actually 3 without running excel in the background. David Brasher
Oblivion and Morrowind are great games, but they don't appeal to everyone. My sister tried Morrowind and quit after one afternoon. She said, "What are you supposed to do?" She couldn't understand a game that did not have one and only one clear object. One way to win. Some of the best Elder Scrolls savegames I have played were ones in which my character did not beat any of the big quests, and just did his own thing. Some people think Oblivion is not violent enough (If you can imagine anyone saying that.) Some people think it is too hard and makes them think too much. They want something really mindless and relaxing. Some people think the graphics and performance are not good enough. I just laugh. I remember Pong and Pac-Man. After playing the Atari 2600, how can anyone possibly complain about Oblivion? But I think the evangelical crusade is working! I have read that Oblivion is actually more popular all these years later than when it was first released. I do not believe anyone should worry about Oblivion dying off and all the websites shutting down anytime soon. TES games are great!
