That said I don't see why it can't be legalised, remove the criminals from the trade and raise some tax revenue at the same time. The "gateway" argument is another good reason to legalise it, as things are people have to deal with those who may well be selling other stuff, if it was legalised users would be less likely to come into contact with the pedallers of the more nasty substances.
