Malchik
Okay that's 8 atm. No prob's Theta it won't be exactly the same. I can take up to 16 but I will have the other group doing something slightly different in the same location. It might be easier to have groups divided by time zone so if you are 1-2 hours either side of forum time we'll call it group A (Europe and Africa) If you are 6-9 hours behind it's group B (Americas) unless you want to be with the Europe lot or vice versa. Far east and Australasia will have to choose which is more convenient.
phawk69
I guess that puts T'skar in group B :) if there ends up being such a thing.

Malchik
Okay some hints for the eight so far. As soon as you have a character post it here and let me tweak it if necessary. Watch what others are posting. The group will be eight and ideally you need a mix of skills. Characters are most skillful if one class but dual class are permitted. They will have lower stats than one class characters. Watch what others are posting and try to build a character that will fit in. You will need a couple of fighters, a tracker, one who can detect traps, a good thief, at most two mages ideally one of them a healer and someone to do the talking. Theta has already indicated she wishes to be a shapechanger from Niyobi. So others looking to be in group A (if we have enough to split the group) need not take that skill. This is a list of magic options for those who want to use it. Dayoneans (all) - true speak/detect lieNiyobians (a few) - shape changingTagfieran Wanderers (all) - conceal and reveal spellsShallarans - breathe waterBashkheri (witches only) - animal affinity, turnip sleep (causes the target to fall asleep) Mage Magic from Tagfier (one school only)Earth - offensive spells, rock stream, shake etc. but a school that is very focussed more likely to be used for more peaceful actionsAir - offensive spells, tornado, blast, etc - a school that is imaginative even fancifulWater - flood, turn to steam - a school that is cool and calculatingFire - many offensive spells - a school that is skilled in combatDeath - serious death spells are too high a level for anyone in this rpg but they have other skills, contact dead, contact undead, feign death etc, - a school that ensures nothing is left unfinishedLight - no real offensive spells but it includes all illusionists - a school that can invent wellHealing - self evident no real offensive spells but can use some healing spells offensively e.g. close out noise - a school that puts helping others firstThe Mind - can control and read the minds of others - a school that thinks of everythingTime - serious time spells are outside the range of those in this rpg but can move out of time and move others out of time - a school that holds knowledge For fightersDayoneans - useless fighters (it is illegal)Niyobians - fair fighters with knives and swordsJourtresians - excellent fighters with everything but bows and arrowsTagfieran Wanderers - fighting on horseback using spears and lancesLevdians - a few are very skilled with bows and arrows most don't fightShallarans - thrown weapons and tridents excellentUritali - machetes and chopping weapons excellentBashkheri - poor fighters but a few are good swordsmen For ThievesDayoneans - useless, there is nothing worth stealing on DayoneNiyobians - fairJourtresians - useless, wrong psychologyTagfieran Wanderers - fairLevdians - various dubious guilds called 'Yar' mean thieves do well hereShallarans - useless, there is nothing at all to steal in ShallaraUritali - good thieves, the society is full of secret cultsBashkheri - good thieves made so because of the wide disparity between rich and poor For Using charm/personalityDayoneans - excellent, no one can lie to them however this can make them be dislikedNiyobians - excellent, the country has rafts of rules about etiquette and formalityJourtresians - er, noTagfieran Wizards - er, no far too arrogantTagfieran Wanderers - nothing specialLevdians - fair especially in commercial situationsShallarans - excellent in the arts of seductionUritali - not good, too secret themselvesBashkheri - variable Hope this gives you enough to work on. Arturius
I'm interested. would quite like to play a shape shifter.Nyobian Theif (shapechanger)Name: Zavich Sex: Male Age: 28His main strength is his stealth, which he aids by shifting into animals, using his natural talent for tracks and his alternate forms heightened smell. He is skilled with both knife and sling, though mainly for hunting, he prefers to avoid direct confrontation. Normally for hire to the highest bidder, he feels immense dissatisfaction with his life, a lack of belonging. After one contract working as a tracker for a trapper, he leaves his home in search of something _more_.He wanders aimlessly till he finds his way to Bashkher, something draws him to the place, his dreams repeat, always he walks through a square of petrified people, fear and pain written on their motionless faces, so dead yet still feeling. is that ok as a concept malchik? phawk69
Better post while the postings good :) Name: T'SkarRace: Tagfieran Wanderer/WizardClass: Thief/Wizard (The Mind)Sex: FemaleAge: 23Other Magic: Conceal and Reveal Spells Having inherited her ability to conceal and reveal from her mother, T'skar had drifted into the thieves ways early. Her mother worked hard, for next to nothing. Nobody wanted to help an unwed mother, and to have a girl on top of it ... well, it hadn't been easy. She really didn't think of it as stealing, more as payment withheld; it eased her conscience anyway. When her mother had died she had felt no attachment to any one place, so had started drifting. Learning early that it was not easy, or safe, to be a young girl alone, she had dressed as a boy, and been treated like one. She could protect herself reasonably well with a knife, if it came to a fight, but hardly used one now. Ever since that night - she had been asked to get something from a certain powerful Mind Wizard. It seemed like a simple in and out job, until she got in. The Wizard was home. He had greeted her by name, and said he knew she would come. Instead of punishing her, of killing her, he had a proposion for her: she would serve as an apprentice and he would teach her, then when he felt ready, he would release her, but she would not be able to leave until he said so, whatever her decision. Seeing no real options, she agreed. Oh sure, she tried leaving any number of times, but always when she would get outside, she would turn and come back in, and the Wizard would say something like "How was the air, dear?", or "Not quite yet." "One day," she thought, "one day ..." She wasn't his only pupil, and she wasn't his best pupil, but she was his favorite, even she could see that. There had been that one who had done nothing worse than she had and had gone home a mindless idiot, his brains burnt in his skull. The Wizard came to her one day (she never did learn his name) and told her she was ready, all she had to do was leave. She had eyed the door dubiously, and then headed for it. Once outside she had turned, just as always, heading back in. Then she realized - mind control. Something subliminal, a compulsion she could not resist. As her hand reached for the knob to lead her back in, she fell into her mind, racing through it, looking for the weave, the thread. She found it, and began to unravel it. As the magic came apart around her, she heard a voice in her head "Come in of your own volition, and we will discuss your future." Placing her hand on the knob, under her own power for the first time, she went in and faced the Wizard. He outfitted her for travel, and survival. She wasn't sure where he had found the lock picks and probes, but they were the best she had ever seen. "Use them wisely," he had told her. The cloak had matched her green eyes, and the auburn trim had matched her hair. The rest was standard travel fair; a backpack, some silk rope, food, water skins. She hardly knew what to say, then he produced the dagger. It was silver, with intricate inlay, and very beautiful. "I had it made for your mother, but never gave it to her." That was it, he turned and left the room, she never saw him again. So many questions, and yet all the answers she needed. It was an empty feeling, leaving that house. So she had wandered, looking for someplace to fit in. And now here she was in a strange country, in a strange tavern (although no tavern was really strange), reading a notice calling for help. She had always been a little soft to a sob story, so could she really say no? I am a little surprised at the female, as T'skar's other incarnations have always been male, but it feels right. Change what you need to Malchik :)
Malchik
Alchemical bonuses - you can play as an alchemist from Tagfier (as opposed to being a Wizard) or from Bashkher itself.
Baba-John
The Story of Baba Bethram. Over the years, many stories have been told about Baba. Some of them scratch the surface, but mostly they are made up.Baba was born in the province of Bashkher, in a small village called Lampur, in the year of The Paper Dog.The village lies in the foothills of The Holy Mountain, on a small stream. He was the fourth of nine children, and here is where the anomalies start. Of nine children, he was the only male child. Up until his eighth birthday, there is not much to tell about his life. His father Ram was the top hunter in the village, and his mother, Allayer was the herbalist come midwife. They wanted for nothing, and life went on around them, without much fuss. This was until that fateful day, in the middle of their short winter, when his world was turned upside down.It had been snowing for many weeks, and the village was running out fresh meat. They sent the hunters out, and four days latter they returned with their kill. This had to be celebrated, and thus the village rejoiced late into the night, the men drinking and retelling how Ram had run down a Yak, on his own. That is why on this morning, only Ram and the five younger children were still inside the cottage, when the accident happened. The serene stream turned into a raging flood right before their eyes, and no one could do anything to help. Some said it was because Ram had caught the Yak on The Holy Mountain, others said it was because Allayer was a witch. Others blamed the Gods. No one knows why it happened, but it did................ It was soon after this, that Baba noticed that the other boys in the village were avoiding him.At first it did not bother him much. He spent his days looking for herbs with his mother, fishing in the small stream or hunting grouse with his sling. Occasionally, he would make a bow out of willow and shoot ducks upstream at the beaver dam. Once he missed, and shot a beaver by mistake. He did not kill the beaver, so he brought it home, and with his mothers help, nursed it back to health. After that you would never see Baba without his beaver trailing him. They worked out new ways to fish, always sharing the spoils equally.Baba also stopped hunting for fun. He had been proficient with the bow but now you would see him practicing on the old stump at the edge of the woods. Baba was ten when he started noticing, that people of the village would make the warding sign, when ever any of his family went by. One month before his Eleventh Birthday, Baba still hadn’t decided what he wanted to be. He would be coming of age. He had fasted, prayed, sat in the rain, retreated to a small cave on The Holy Mountain, but nothing......................... Then one morning while Baba was still in bed, the beaver had jumped onto Baba’s furs and bitten him on the nose. Not hard enough to break the skin but enough to bring him to his senses with a jolt. The beaver then took Baba’s hand in his snout, and started pulling him. The sun was not yet up when they went outside, but the beaver was adamant, Baba had to follow him. He would run off a little then turn and squeak as if saying; hurry up. The beaver headed into the woods and at the waters edge there lay a gravid female beaver, obviously in labor. Baba spoke to her trying to calm her so that he could take a closer look and see what was wrong. On closer examination he saw that her birth canal had constricted around the first of her pups. He gently pulled the pup out of her, but it was too late. The pup had suffocated. After that the litter came quickly, so Baba was no longer needed. He headed home and told his mother what had happened while she made him breakfast. Slowly, she turned from the open-hearth fireplace and looked at him in a strange way all the while nodding her head. The second major anomaly in Baba’s life was the fact, that he was the only child to be born in the village in the year of The Paper Dog. This meant that he was the only one who would be taking part in the Rite of Passage this year. The full moon came quickly and as Baba was led into the elders hut he was conscious of his singularity. All the elders were present including his mother, but this did little to settle his mind.Llama stood up after what seemed like an eternity and said;”You have fulfilled the rituals of seeking, what is the outcome?” At first Baba didn’t answer as he didn’t realize that Llama had spoken to him. Then, as if listening to someone else saying it, he heard himself say;” I am a shaman.” This was unheard of. There hadn’t been a male shaman for ............................well, ever. The look of shock on everyone’s faces could not be disguised. The only one who didn’t judge him was his mother. Allayer stood and quietly said; “I will take this man as my apprentice. Do you agree Baba?”At this, an argument ensued and Baba was ushered from the hut before could reply. The next morning he started his apprenticeship under his mother’s watchful eyes. The subject was never broached again, so he assumed his mother had won. Many years passed before anything else untoward happened in Baba’s life. In Baba’s eighteenth year, he became a master witch. There wasn’t any pomp or ceremony. He was returning from collecting herb in the woods, when he came across a white stag.Ho took his yew bow from his back, strung it and fired two shots without even thinking. The stag fell where it stood. Baba skinned the animal and placed as much meat in the skin, as he could carry. When he got home he told his mother what had happened and presented her with the herbs and meat. She turned and walked into her sleeping chamber, returning immediately holding Ram’s stag horn war bow. Pushing it into his hands she said:” I can teach you no more. The time has come for you to find your own way.” This is how Baba came to carry Ram’s stag horn war bow.As the snow started melting, his mother came to him again, with another gift. She had cured the white stag’s skin and made a cloak for him from it.It was a semi circle with a semicircular hole on the flat side about 6” in diameter. On each end there was a silver hasp. Two pieces of antler had been joined with a short silver chain.Trying it on, he saw that you could wear this cloak permanently, either over your shoulders or down your back. Allayer told him he would be needing it, where he was going. The time had come.Baba packed his few possessions and said goodbye to his family, not knowing where he was going. Baba seems to disappear from history for about thirty years before walking into the camp. What you see is a wily old man of about 48.“hear you looking for a healer..............” :(
ThetaOrionis01
Just to clarify something - when you say the shapeshifters can change into any animal smaller than they are, do you mean that each shapeshifter can change into a variety of animal forms, or that each shapeshifter needs to pick one animal form out of the available ones, which should presumably be specified when creating the character?
