VaanicOne
Okay, got my copy of Oblivion today, waited patiently 'till it was installed, turned it on, intro video very choppy, got into the first dungeon, character creation, did a little tweaking. Then...BAM, it freezes up completely, I have to reboot. And I'm thinking...THIS again!? This happened with all of my games so far, but surely I fixed it by removing CFTmon.exe? Clearly not. The problem is back, again. But this time, there is no CFTmon behind it. I mean, Jesus christ, this is just taking the ****. Does ANYONE here know why this problem is originating and how I can fix it, again?

Dark0ne
Start -> Run msconfig Startup. Unselect every tick box and restart your PC and try again. Similarly make sure there aren't any programs in Start -> Programs -> Startup.

OK, I did that, unfortunately, the problem has not gone away, although it does wait a little while longer before freezing, about 2 minutes. Is there any other assisstance you can offer? Hi, I am wondering if you have something else that is set to autorun at startup like your antivirus program. After you boot, disable your AV program and then load the game. Some AV programs like Norton can interfear with some games on certain system. That could be what is going on with yours. If you do disable your AV program, be sure that you also disconcet from the Internet while the AV program is disabled. After you're done playing, turn your AV back on and connect to the internet again. I also do not use msconfig. Download and install "What's Running". It's free and more powerful for controlling your startup programs.
VaanicOne
Okay, thanks for the help everyone! I disabled my sound card yesterday and that solved the problem. Thanks Dark0ne and atoddmoore for your assisstance! No, scrap that. It's happening again. I disabled the sound card yesterday and that fixed it, but I've come down this morning to play it the problem just came back, I don't understand this at all! This is a nightmare. Yes. The sound card is still disabled. Yes. All the startup options are still disabled. How can a computer DO this? It can't just come along and say "Oh I'll work today but not tommorrow!", something really screwey is going on here! I'm so angry.
Dark0ne
I don't really know, obviously all your drivers are up-to-date (right?). Try reinstalling your drivers or installing an earlier version. You may also want to get your anti-virus program to start again if that isn't the problem, else you won't be protected!
Stampede
I really feel for you man! Is your card perhaps overheating? Have you tried running it with all settings at their very lowest? (Just to see how that goes.)
VaanicOne
Okay, This computer has some serious issues: Saturday: Game doesn't work, fixed via disabling soundcard. Sunday: Game refuses to work again, fixed via re-enabling sound card and disabling it again. Today: Yet again, game refuses to work, Sunday's solution does not work. strange, huh? I will note now that Norton Antivirus had appeared to have disabled itself when I quit the game on Sunday night... What do you think this means?
