Very interesting; a new Unreal game is cause for celebration in and of itself, but this project will be interesting to watch. I see a Team Fortress influence to all of this.

I'd probably prefer if it was paid, not free.

Free games attract way too many hackers and cheaters with no fear of being banned repeatedly.

 

Still, worth checking out since I always regretted not getting UT3 before it had lost most of its players.

Epic's decision to build the game in public isn't the only change that reflects the passage of time. Unreal Tournament will be free — but not free-to-play, according to the developer

 

So its clearly not free.....

"Free means free — no microtransactions," he said. "Just free."

When asked how Epic will earn income with a free game, Polge said that Unreal Tournament will "eventually" have a marketplace where modders can post and give away or sell their maps, mods and other content.

No doubt that a percent of the sale price for modders selling content will go to epic games.
