darksaint0523
So whenever I try to do Generate objects in the Lod window it gave me an error message. At first it was about the sizes of two files not being the same; DLC03Runaway01lod.tga and DLC03Runaway01lod_n.tga. I 'fixed' this by opening the the Fallout - textures file and copying and renaming the lod_n as the lod (naturally I made a backup of the Fallout - textures file first). now I get this message: My worldspace doesn't even have the runways in it, it HAD them, but I deleted them. Any ideas?
TrickyVein
What exactly did you do to resolve the first error you received? Delete the lodsettings for your worldspace and then restart the GECK and try it again.
darksaint0523
To resolve the first error I was getting: I unpacked the file 'Fallout - Textures' using the FOMMs BSA browser. Then I copied DLC03Runaway01lod_n, pasted it to the desktop, and renamed it DLC03Runaway01lod. Then I used this renamed file to replace the file with the same name in the folder that I unpacked everything to. Then I repacked the files using the other BSA tool in FOMM and saved it as Fallout - Textures. It was after this that I started getting this message. ...Ok, so how do I delete the lodsettings? TrickyVein
I still don't understand why you changed your Fallout - textures.bsa. It's best to work with loose files when generating object LOD. In fact, you kind of have to. If the 1st error was that such and such textures weren't the same size but should be, all you needed to do was resize the textures. If everything is in your source folder as well as your NV data folder then you should be OK. LOD settings are located in a folder called 'lodsettings' in your NV data folder and are named for the worldspace where they come from. Quote Fallout New Vegas\Data\LODSettings\[name of your worldspace] I've found that if LOD object gen is trying to generate data from objects that no longer exist in your cells it's because the lodsettings need to be updated. chucksteel
People get that error when they haven't set up there source folder correctly or try to generate LOD without creating one that contains the TGA textures in the first place.
darksaint0523
Ok, so; based on what you all have said, and what I've been able to figure out for myself: this error message is from me messing around with the textures.bsa. I've put it back as it should be, and am now back to the original error message: 'This texture and that texture are not the same size, but should be'. First it was runways, so I deleted them, then It was aircraft hangers, I deleted them too, now its an office building and I get the feeling that if I delete every instance of the office building it'll get hung up on something else, till there's nothing left... So now it comes down to this: How can I either; A) fix these textures, B) trick the GECK into thinking the textures are fine, or C) make the GECK not care that the textures are different sizes? I honestly don't even know why the textures are not the right sizes to begin with; until this problem came up, I hadn't even touched those files; they are exactly as they were when the game was installed. ALSO; thanks for taking the time to help a novice like me ^w^
TrickyVein
Do you not want to be able to see these objects? Why generate object LOD at all if you're deleting buildings? Like Chuck says, you need to have your source folder set-up and filled with .tga textures in order for LOD object generation to complete. It's getting hung up on the first object you mentioned because the GECK can't find the textures it needs in your source folder. So if you delete it, it will get hung up on the next. Then the next. You'll probably want to read this.
chucksteel
you need to create a source folder which contains the LOD textures. This Source folder lives outside of your game folder but inside the the common folder where you game lives. Inside the source folder there should be a folder called Textures TGA inside that folder you have to create TGA versions of the LOD.dds files. they must be in the same file path as the the files are in the BSA. if you haven't done this LOD will not generate. Look at the bottom of my sig there is a link to a modders resource to help people get started with LOD Generation. called NV LOD Essentials pack. there is a mini tutorial and explanations of what the errors really mean to you. it also contains many (but not all! I'm sure!) for the LOD meshes and texture you will need to run LOD.
darksaint0523
OK! making progress. The electrical pylons have black in them, though, and the LOD landscape seems to covered in random textures.
