jaosals42
I've been playing violent video games all my life (yes, since I was an infant) and I'm 17 now. I've never willingly started a fight and never held a gun in my life. I've noticed more problems personally caused by debating whether video games are bad or not than actually caused by the games themselves. Anyone who brings along violent video games so Action Alliance can smash/burn/sell them will get a 'lottery' ticket to be in with a chance to win a replica football shirt signed by the German national team. Smash and burn the games? Does anyone notice something ironic here? They're pretty much saying, give us these games so we can go make bonfires out of them and take this t-shirt and shut-up. Talk about using people.

AncientSpaceAeon
They blame a game and the companies that make them rather than place the blame on the weak-minded individuals that allow themselves to be swept up in something made for entertainment purposes and not to be taken as a literal existence. How pathetic some people are and what losers too.And what better way to stop them rather than banning violent games ? Would you rather seen Germany's citizen's minds destroyed first, then ban those video games ? I mean, what leader would blame it's own people, that's idiotic. Think about it. Example (on a national TV) : President : I'm here to tell you, that YOU, the citizens of this nation, especially the very weak-minded individuals, is pathetic. I don't know how angry the citizens can be. Well, if this offensive, I am sorry. It's my opinion.
theuseless
I'm old enough to remember the Mortal Kombat controversy here in the states from the '80s. The same cry baby tactics were employed to ban video game violence here. You know what they found in studies? They found that Japan, one of the most crowded countries, has the most violent and bloody video games. They also found that Japan had the lowest violent crime rate in the industrialized world. What this argument states is clear: Violent video games don't promote violence in the mainstream population, rather they give an outlet to curb such aggression. These people that are going on killing sprees and killing their parents have much larger issues than mock violence. It is a proven psychological fact that most killers have malfunctioning pineal glands, decreasing the inhibitions toward "psychotic" behavior. If we are going to look at eliminating this terrible problem, we need to look at our societies. We constantly pile pressures and social stigmas on our youth, ever increasing with commercialism. We need to look at the factors that lead up to these shootings, all of them. Sure, those German kids who shot up the school said that they played counterstrike, etc. I would be very surprised if they hadn't also ate a hamburger. I am a devout meat eating carnivore, but I have heard the same argument time and again about eating animals leading towards agressive behavior. Basically, you could juxtapose any number of factors into there and try to ban all them, down to booze and Halloween. The real problem there is either chemical or inherited through bad upbringing. Something went wrong in the nature or nurture of the person's development. I grew up on Mortal Kombat style blood fests. Not my friends nor I have shot anybody, nor stabbed anybody. We are are a peaceful lot and these violent outlets allow us to vent our aggressions. I hope for the sake of the German children this lame idea gets properly thought through.theuseless

wizardmirth
Didn't read all posts. Person using the weapon is responsible, not the weapon or the outside influence. I don't care if it's a song, a whole band, or a video game. In some cases it might be a mental deficiany, in all other cases it's just a lot of personal angst waiting to go kaboom. When anyone goes on a witch-hunt (and hey, it's the way of the world) it's just a sign that they're looking for a scapegoat and don't have a real answer. And yet they love driving and the road. Why doesn't the autobahn make them more cool and calm. Yes, 160 miles per hour and no coffee cup holder in your car. Life is perfect. Or so says the state. (Sorry, can't help thinking of Dr. Strangelove!)
