madcow12
I mean it might be because i use lockpick pro, but lockpicking just seems too minor a thing to have an entire skill tree to itself. would you agree? if possible what would you change it to? BlackRoseOfThorns
I wouldn't bother with it unless you have some major skill tree and mechanics overhauls or if you simply want to roleplay. In vanilla I can lockpick master locks at any level, given I have few spare lockpicks. Later on you can decide to get skeleton and key and not hand it over in order to finish quest. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Skeleton_Key_%28Skyrim%
notmyhome
Most of the perks related to making lockpicking easier are basically useless. That's why Skyrim Redone merged that perk tree with pickpocket, to make space for Wayfarer.Golden Touch and Treasure Hunter are nice to have, though. sralkyrv
Some things in Skyrim are completely foolish, lockpicking is imho only usefull if you are a thief, but if your character is a warrior or a mage the lockpicking thing has no real value and yet you need to lockpick chests and doors, in chests you find often potions of health and magicka, which you use if you are a mage or a warrior. Bethesda could have thought those things more thoroughly to make the game more aimed at specific characters. IsharaMeradin
I may be in the minority but I found lockpicking to be difficult and resorted to using LockpickPro. Tho I do give myself 10 seconds before it displays so that I can at least try before it shows up. Sometimes I get lucky but that is usually on the lowest two levels. For me putting perk points into lockpicking for making the "sweet spot" bigger is a good thing. But that one that is supposed to put the pick closer to the master lock's sweet spot seems broken beyond hope. That is a wasted perk point, IMHO. Making a wax key is counter-productive. The only way to level lockpicking is to pick locks, but unless you remove the key from your inventory you cannot do that. I guess it is 50/50 some of it is good but some of it is not. For non-stealth characters they should have allowed bashing of doors and containers. For magic users, an alteration spell to alter the status from locked to unlocked would have been nice. Too bad it would interfere with my key ring mod (which I have drastically improved locally). Might have to talk to the author and see if they want to incorporate my key ring ideas and/or the other way.
madcow12
Every time i look at the lockpicking perk tree, I want to remove it and replace it with something else. But then all other possible aspects seemed covered and the ones that do overhaul it comes in packages only which makes it hard to pick
