Thor.
Hey nice what software does he use to edit the pictures???
Illiad86
He uses Registax to stack the images and GIMP to balance out the colours a bit. Nothing too fancy hehe...Registax does most of the work. Went out Friday night. Was my boyfriend's birthday :) We spent the night taking pictures of Jupiter again :D Great night :) One of it's moons, Io, transited across it and he made an animation of it :D Hour of one minute videos, 52 frames. Took like 2 hours to align all the images in GIMP :P The camera died shortly before the moon finished it's transit :( Really need to get an AC adapter for the dang thing. Must say, this is the best one we've gotten so far :) http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv200/Illiana86/Jup10-8-20102.gif and here's a picture of the Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543) :) http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv200/Illiana86/catseye.jpgtiny little thing :D Can't wait, about another month or so and we can get some more pictures of Orion :D End of the week looks good...will get some more shots of the Moon. Might get some more Sun pictures too :) Nice sized sunspot is coming around :D Ah man...no more late weekday nights :( Boyfriend finally got a regular job...no more roofing for him :D Hope the weekend is clear...fingers crossed :D
Illiad86
Ah well last weekend wasn't all that great :( Weather was decent but we were celebrating his first week at his new job :) Beer and telescopes don't mix :P We did get a video of the Sun though, think two satellites passed by: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7c0qSINDvY What you guys think? I thought they were birds lol... And here's a full mosaic of the Sun again, lotsa spots this time :) http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv200/Illiana86/disk.jpg
Omeletter
I like the picture of the Sun, I liked the clear colour of it. Looks smooth on the edges of it too.

Illiad86
hahaha :P Ya need a White Light Filter for it :) There's either visual or photographic types http://agenaastro.com/baader-astrosolar-film-photographic-nd-3-8.html This is really thin film...kinda looks like one of those emergency blankets :P They have glass types, but they cost anywhere from $800-wayy too much :P But this film is just as good :) You have to make your own adapter to stick it on the telescope. http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv200/Illiana86/filter1.jpglol it looks like a garbage bag in this picture...but it's this super thin silver coloured film :) The Sun is white when you look through that filter, my boyfriend adds the nice yellow colour :) 5 pictures stringed up, 848x568 :) Our camera is 12MP but the photos come out better when you use the lower resolutions :D Haha...I wrote this long time ago :P Pizza came and we watched Cosmos :D Totally forgot I was typing this lol
AliasTheory
Oh man. I haven't been in this topic yet. What have I been doing? I love astronomy and I love all these pictures in this thread. It's hard to even conceive of these celestial bodies and other cosmic entities. Their macro scale of basically everything (conditions, etc,) is just as amazing as something like nanotech. Both are beyond our biological ways of perception. Picture of Saturn on page 2 (or 3?) is pretty dang awesome.
Illiad86
Thanks for looking :) Weekend looks pretty crappy so far :( Hope it changes :( Possibly Friday night we go out...Saturday and Sunday looks like rain :( Just stinks that we can't stay up on the weekdays anymore...but someone has to work :P Haha, he's so tired...we have to wake up at 3:30 in the morning so he can be to work by 5...ugh...2 more days :P
AliasTheory
My pleasure to look at this stuff. And you need to have some sort of emote limiter...seriously. :P You make me wish I was back home in Hawaii. If I went to the local university, I could study the stars and all of the night sky in one of the best spots on the planet. It must be funny to study up at an observatory with all the low oxygen conditions and all the "wait, what was I doing?" scenarios. But that's why the researchers record stuff up there and work at lower elevations. I don't regret being up here in California though.
