JimboUK
If you make the weapon yourself then that's fine, it's ripping models from other games or stealing other peoples work that gets people banned.

I still found a few guys that uploaded Halo weapons but yet they dont have a s*** ton of endorsments ...well it seems like I will keep the revolvers for meself hehehehe Well that's because those Halo weapons were actually made from scratch by those modders, not ripped from a game, that alows them to remain on the nexus. Also, if you're looking for a ton of endorsements every time you release a mod, you're going to be disappointed, man. The community is smaller now. SayinNuthin
Mmmm... So if I want to reproduce 'scenes' from movies that have some connection with the Mojave (or deserts.. or that I just happen to like.. ) how far can or should I go with that? Res Evil Extinction for instance. Entirely set and shot in the Mojave dessert - what wasn't shot on blu-screen anyway. The disguised surface 'compound' is a doddle to make with vanilla elements and we have an infinite number of ghouls.(if I could just work out how to stop them running off!) Could I name the Umbrella Corporation? Could I name Alice's body in the concrete drain to loot for a sawn-off and a load of coin shot? I wasn't thinking in terms of using almost certainly copyrighted material such as the Umbrella Corp's logo or building models of specific items from the movies or games but would it possible to 'say' something I shouldn't?... And is this why did the guy who posted the 'Six-String Samurai' mod get banned, or was it something else entirely? (and what happens to his mod.. ) Advise please. nivea
As long as you do not rip content from another game, take voices from a movie then you are fine. You want to have Leon from RE as a companion in the game, go for it. Just do not use anything from any place else, you have to make him yourself. You voice him, you make his face, you make his armor, you make his comments (or you know get other modders to work with you). So long as its YOU doing they stuff its fine. Want a weapon from another game, make a weapon from scratch inspired by that weapon. Now logos are copy righted images, those can be touchy. I suppose if you draw it yourself it could be ok, but I would PM a moderator about that first. If you are talking about the user named Nord_X, he was banned for using (after many warnings from moderators it sounds) content from FO3 that was not in FNV. It sounds like if he had followed the warnings he would not have been banned. There is a forum for bans and warnings, you can find information on anyone banned there. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/256125-nord-x-banned/?hl=%2Bnord_x Moderators most the time give warnings to let users remove the stuff from their mod, which is good because even the best modders can be forgetful. SayinNuthin
The Res Evil was an example I've set aside for the moment but I'm trying very hard to only use vanilla (not even dlc) pieces and import as little new items as possible. However I plan to import the first 14.5 seconds of this; https://soundcloud.com/quaro/quaro-musical-pocket-watch as loop - assuming he gets back to me and grants permission. As nice as it would be to use the original by Enrico Morricone.. why go looking for trouble  But you know the one in the 'For A Few Dollars More' is a real 'traditional' pocket watch chime as opposed to something written for the movie. So did United Artists buy or aquire the copyright on the watch chime? Of which many were commercially produced 'before' the movie and, I imagine, quite a few afterwards. [Edit] And if your making new weapons Oddgunsmith, I'd like one of these; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7wOX2WqbXE Edited June 26, 2014 by SayinNuthin
bben46
Copyright lawyers tend to be a bit anal - they don't make any money if they don't have someone to sue. So don't give them anything to work with - Umbrella corp. becomes Parasol co. Company logo gets changed. how about making the umbrella inside out - like it was blown that way by the wind? and colors completely changed - add something to the logo - for instance a cat in an upside down plaid parasol. Names - can be close instead of Alice, how about Alison? Anyone who knows about Umbrella corp will get the joke.
