hi, im a long time morrowind player, and recently had to reformat my computer, which meant i had to to reinstall morrowind as well. all went well until i tried to play the game. as sson as the bethesda softworks thing ended, the error message "bling" noise began to play repeatedly, and as soon as the menu loaded an error message came up saying something along the lines of "error: cant play morrowind title.mp3" and the game quit out. i have tried opening it again, i reinstalled it, and it still does exactly the same thing. if anyone could tell me what was wrong and perhaps how to fix it i would greatly appreciate it.

ok, i tried both things, installing it to a different directory didnt do a single thing, so i uninstalled and reinstalled to the old directory. then, i replaced the morrowind title music with a random mp3, but the problem still occurred. is it possible to turn off music without running the game?

That's, er... impossible. If you named the file correctly and put it in the correct folder, but the application still states that the file is not there, it must mean that the application is vulked.

Well, the only thing that I could see working is to change the "Disable Audio=0" line under General in Morrowind.ini to "Disable Audio=1," then turn off music in Options after running the executable.

  • 4 weeks later...

I know this thread is ancient, but I have just come across the same error when starting Morrowind.

error: cannot play Morrowind title MP3

And the game quit

The problem? I was running winamp in the background...I only wanted to test something ingame and hadn't bothered to turn the music off

So, if anyone is getting that error message, check if any other application is using your sound device....

d'oh!
