Tracking Centre

Robin,

I wanted to come over here and provide some feedback on a problem I've been having, and while I can appreciate someone doing it already, I didn't want to justify "vernvern's" derogitory comments with a reply asking for it to be fixed, appearing that I'm jumping on his bandwagon instead of providing logical and USEFUL feedback. So here's my thoughts.

In the tracking centre, I have discovered a problem and wanted to request some improvements to be made:

PROBLEM:

When entering the Tracking Centre, and then clicking on "Full Feed", there is a drop down box that allows us to further filter out specific actions to be shown. For instance, I like to choose "File Updates" to try and see what files within my tracked listing have been updated lately.

This works semi-well, although I have some suggestions below.

The problem that exists is that when I select a new page (page 2 for instance), the filter is removed. I notice this via two methods: 1) the number of pages jumps dramatically, from 80 to over 250, and 2) the files shown are once again pertaining to all types of changes. So I go ahead and click on the drop-down menu, reselect my desired filter, and click okay, at which time the current page is updated properly (it does NOT reset to page 1 thank goodness). Although this work around is functional, it shouldnt be neccesary. I am using MSIE 8 by the way, and have no desire to use FireFox for personal and professional reasons.

IMPROVEMENTS:

I have some thoughts regarding this page.

I would suggest first and foremost to allow the user (perhaps just premium, but maybe all), to use a series of slection boxes similiar to that of the advanced file search page, to filter out everything that the user does or does NOT wish to have displayed.

To clarify further, under "File Updates" currently, the resulting filter displays:

1) File Changes - including remaning of files, changes to descriptions,

2) File Removed

3) New File

If I am trying to track only the latest updates, I am primarily concerned with NEW files only. Having all the other mdofications made by authors simply causes what should be about 20 pages (according to my set of tracked mods) to boost to 80, with often times only 2-3 mods being shown per page. Why only 2-3? because if a modder is wise and efficent, they will move the old file to the outdated or optional section, rename the file, change the small description, and remove any older files that are currently present. Thats 5 actions being displayed when I really only wish to see 1.

The image filter works very much the same way currently, in that it shows when images are uploaded, approved (verified), and removed.

Having the checkbox listing would allow a great amount of fitlering to take place. Addtionally, I'm thinking that it would actually SAVE YOU backwidth usage as users would not be clicking frantically through pages upon pages of data to find out about updates since the last time they signed on. Instead they would only query the server once to filter out all the non-essential data on the front end.

For this and other novels of redundant insight, please contact me below or reply with thoughts and comments. :)

Ok I have fixed the issue with the full feeds not remembering the proper filters set by the user.

The tracking centre is due for an update as some of the queries it runs can be extremely time consuming so it needs refining. This will come as part of a wider overhaul of the site code that I'm currently working on.

Thanks for the heads up.

It seems to not be working again. I thought it was this morning, but tonight it has reverted back to showing all fields/filters upon clicking on a new page.
