Deleted1082189User
Hey there. When I load my game, I am unable to play. It simply crashes me before it even begins to load. I can start and go to the main menu, but when I try clicking continue, new game, or load, it simply crashes. Ive tried reinstalling the mods I had that I deleted before this, but to no avail. If someone knows a **WORKING** tool or **WORKING** method of fixing this, I would appreciate the help. **AND PLEASE** do not post here unless you ((KNOW)) the fix, please do not post if youre going to say something like the following: "Idk", "It must be one of your mods", "Try (Unsupported mod that replaces important files here)", "Try reinstalling oblivion", "It must be your ((Insert file that looks like binary code here))". I need people who know how to fix this and will not just take up posts and time by explaining in thorough detail they have absolutely no clue what theyre doing. Please, post here if you **((|| KNOW || )) ** how to fix this error.
DavidBudreck
That's interesting that you are so specific about someone helping that knows what there doing, but then do not give enough information for anybody to help you. Maybe you should spend a little less time describing the person you want to help, and a little more time furnishing them with information. Without knowing your load order, it is pretty difficult to help. However, a crash such as the one you are describing is indicitive of a missing Master File. These end in .esm instead of .esp. Many mods require them. There are helpers out there, such as BOSS or OBMM that will analyze your load order and tell you what you are missing. This is an article from BBen if you don't know how to post a load order:http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=295 BOSS - Better Oblivion Sorting Softwarehttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 OBMM - Oblivion Mod Managerhttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097
Deleted1082189User
Indeed. But I find it equally interesting that one would attempt to tell another that they do not give enough information about a problem, when they themselves give too little information as to a fix for such a problem. I did not give my load order because I have tried several different methods of changing them, including BOSS, and OBMM. I have tried fixing the load order, and nothing has been fixed. It is clear at this point the load order may not be the problem, perhaps a corrupted file or something of that nature. I thank you for the assistance, but as I said, I need someone who knows a bit more about a fix, rather than potential programs.
DavidBudreck
As I said, the type of crash that you are describing is indicative of a missing Master File. When Oblivion trys to load or start a game, it checks its resources. If one of your mods needs resources that are not there, the game hangs in exactly the way you are describing. However, as I said, without a load order, anybody that would try to help is just guessing. Corrupt files are Very rare. Missing Master Files are fairly common. Or, saved games that rely on something from a mod that is no longer there. Typically, when mods are missing all their stuff just poofs away. However, I had an experience with a certain mod that I could not play without until I learned enough about the construction set to tear the mod apart and find what was causing the problem. Have you tried disabling mods one at a time until you find the one that is causing the problem? It's a pain, but sometimes is the only way to know. DavidBudreck
What? The game won't run at all? Even stripped down to the base files with No mods installed at all? What version of Windows are you running?
Deleted1082189User
What? The game won't run at all? Even stripped down to the base files with No mods installed at all? What version of Windows are you running? With no mods installed, and with mods installed, I get the same result. I CAN start it, and I CAN go to the menu up to the part where I pick load. When I pick my file and I confirm, it does not show a load screen, it simply crashes. It still happens regardless of if I have mods or not, and starting a new save does not work. It happened directly after I installed the Camera Redone mod, which is why I think it is a corrupted file that may be the problem. I tried uninstalling it, still no luck, reinstalled it just now, still no luck. I am on windows Vista. The game had no problems until I installed the obviously buggy camera redone mod, so if you know what it may have messed up, please let me know. DavidBudreck
OK, I think I might have been able to duplicate the problem. I exported the OMOD to a folder. Within is a folder called "Menus" and within that is a folder called "Main" and within that is a file called "hud_reticle.xml". If I place the "Menus" folder in my Data folder, Oblivion crashes--not in exactly the way you are describing, but crashes nonetheless. Make sure this folder and file are removed from you Data Folder. It might take some poking around as I am not positive where OBMM would put it, but from the look of the way it extracted, it would be at the base level in the Data Folder. The rest of the mod is not destructive if removed. It just places meshes and textures, that if removed, would mean Oblivion would just use it's default files stored in it's .bsa file. Deleted1082189User
Thank you very much, David :). It was indeed in the folder and it took me a few seconds to remove it. It is now working.
