Jenrai
You are trying to start a new game I take it? Some race mods simply don't add their content at the original menu (don't ask why. I've not figured that one out either.) Use the "showracemenu" command in the console to access them... but it is VITALLY important that you DO NOT close the race menu and continue your game. That will screw up your character. Instead, save the game with the race menu still open, EXIT THE GAME (not just to main menu. I mean quit the game) and restart it and reload your save. All should be well.Should. You use this at your peril. It is buggy and can corrupt saves. Just wanted to make sure you got the full advice, rather than finding the command somewhere else and borking your game anyways because they didn't warn ya. ;) Jenrai

DavidBudreck
Make sure you have whatever custom race mod activated. That sounds simple, but is very easy to forget. Make sure Oblivion is patched to the latest release; many mods won't work without it. The race may not be marked as playable. Make sure the race you are trying to play can actually be played by the player, and not just by NPC's by checking the Readme, the description in the page, etc.
Sycho
Mod is activated. Oblivion patched? hm i patched that i remember for sure, when i click technical support it says 1.2.0416, but in game in bottom left screen it says 1.0228 or sth like that... erm, w00t? Can it be a problem? Or what does it means?
DavidBudreck
That may be the problem. 1.2.0416 is the most recent version. 10228 is older. I've heard people having the same problem, but I do not know why. Try patching it again.
Fonger
but in game in bottom left screen it says 1.0228If the game says 1.0228 then the 1.2.0416 patch did not install properly.
Jenrai
Fonger's right. Beth's patches are... ahem... quirky. First off, make sure you are using the right language version of the patch (Euro english is different to American/Australian, for example) and that if you have Shivering Isles installed (if not, why not? eh eh eh? ;) ) you install the Shivering Isles patch. That will patch Oblivion as well.Don't try to install both. It won't work as the Oblivion Patch is built into the SI one. And by the way - certain times, the patches will not hold anyways... if you're hit with that "file detected but not same, aborting patch" or whatever the hell it says message, and you're 120% certain that its the right patch, I'm afraid you'll have to reinstall your game. There's not really a way around that one. At least not that I know of.Apologies in advance if you do. I know from personal experience that that's a pain in the butt.
